Issa Pantami

The Nigeria minister of communications and digital economy and also a renowned Muslim cleric has received his share of dragging over time, as he expressed views sympathetic to groups such as al-Qaeda and Boko Haram.

In one sermon from the 2000s, he said he considered al-Qaeda founder, Osama Bin Laden, a better Muslim than himself, and in another, he said he was happy when infidels were massacred.

Recordings of him expressing these views began circulating on social media a few weeks ago, leading to calls for his resignation or sacking by President Muhammadu Buhari. What infuriated the anger of Nigerians was when the federal government asserted that we should forget is past and move on. lol

Desmond Elliot

Really, this Nigerian lawmaker’s saga is the funniest of every political actor’s trends; it is funny to an extent that if anything should happen in the Nigeria social media space especially things that do not concern the lawmaker, they will tag it as ‘Na Desmond Elliot cause am.

However, so many issues cumulated to form the Desmond Elliot drag trends: first, he was mocked for building a bridge, and toilet of such low standard and also bragging about his achievement in the Surulere Constituency of Lagos state.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was his disheartened comment on the activities of youths during the EndSARS protest. He addressed the youths as ‘children’ before his colleagues in the House. At a time like that, the commentary really met the youths in a very shocking way; coming from an actor they once regarded.

Burna Boy

This grammy award winner was added to this dragging list because he was once dragged by netizens for allegedly making the biggest heist on Youtube.

His fans noticed an unusual increase in the number of Youtube views on one of his music videos  “Monsters you made”. This song was released in 2020 and suddenly it accumulated over 500,000 views within an hour.

He was nicknamed Ikorodu Lucky Dube for telling Nigerians that they deserve their leaders was perhaps the most exciting one. They should have even pitied him and called him Ikorodu Fela since that is his mentor!

Wizkid

Wizkid is one artiste that never connects to the dragging hotspot; however, on Saturday, baba was dragged for tweeting a celebration of his 10 years in the industry while the June 12 protest was going on.

You will recall that he once blasted Reekado Banks for posting his album during the EndSARS protest. Fans really attacked him, showed their vexation with cruise and all.

Lai Muhammed

This Nigerian minister of Infomation and Culture fit into the category of this popular slang, ‘customer dada ni.’ He hardly lives a week without been dragged. Recently, he courted the speech that led to the suspension of Twitter activities in Nigeria. Funnily enough, he made a serious blunder while given the speech, lol.

Tope Alabi

Hmm! Aunty Tope, a popular gospel singer was recently dragged by people who really respected her personality and songs in general for talking down on ‘Oniduro Mi’ by Adeyinka Alaseyori; it was a terrible day she will always remember as she also lost millions of her followers on social media.

In a video that make a wave, Tope Alabi could be heard correcting the song publicly as she stands on her word that it is so wrong to refer to God as ‘Oniduro mi’ [my guarantor] while backing her claims with caution from the holy spirits from when she tried to sing along.

“God is not my own guarantor; he is more than a guarantor to me. I love the song too but the day I tried singing it, the holy spirit told me to shut up,” she said in the Yoruba language.

“This is not about condemning the song; when you receive a song in the spirit, it is supposed to go through some refining with the holy ghost before producing it, else, you will just be singing rubbish,” she added in part.

However, her commentary does not meet embittered Nigerians with a cool cruise; they lampooned her to an extent that she too will be regretting the activities of the day.

Lol! A Twitter user tweet: “Maybe Tope Alabi don do guarantor for one person for LAPO before and dem lock am for toilet”.
