Police arrests Housewife for killing co-wife with a pestle in Bauchi
Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a housewife, Maryam Ibrahim, for allegedly killing her co-wife with a pestle in Bauchi.
The suspect was said to have used a pestle to hit her husband’s first wife on the head which led to her death.
According to the police, the incident happened at Gar Village in Pali Ward in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Walil, who stated this in a media statement said that the husband of the suspect reported the incident at the Maina-Maji Divisional Police Headquarters on November 22nd, 2022.
Wakil said, “On the 22nd November 2022 at about 6.00 pm, one Ibrahim Sambo, male (40) of Gar village Pali ward, Alkaleri LGA, came to Maina-Maji Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that on the same date at about 12.00am, his second wife Maryam Ibrahim, (20) of the same address armed with a pestle entered into his first wife room, Hafsat Ibrahim (32), of the same address and hit her with the pestle on the head.
“As a result, the victim sustained a serious degree of injury and was evacuated to a primary health care centre in Gar village where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives attached to the command swung into action and arrested the suspect.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime. She revealed that on Tuesday, 22nd November 2022 at about 11.00 am, the deceased (Hafsat Ibrahim), sent her son, Abdulaziz Ibrahim (5) with a lump of fried meat known as (Tsire) to give her (Maryam). And after eating the meat, she started feeling abnormal and she then vomited the meat.
“Thereafter, she (the suspect) called one Faiza Hamisu, female, of the same address, the wife of her husband’s younger brother, and told her exactly what happened.
“She added that the said Faiza told her that it was probably an ulcer; she (Faiza), then gave her an ulcer drug.
“Subsequently, the suspect provocatively went to her kitchen, picked a pestle and entered the first wife’s room while she was asleep and hit her on the head, leading to her death.”
Man commits suicide on Bayelsa flyover
The body of an unidentified man was seen, Sunday, hanging at a flyover some distance from the NNPC mega filling station, Ekeki suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Some believed he might have killed himself by hanging himself on Saturday night.
The body of the man said to be in his late thirties, clad in a blue long-sleeved shirt and brown trousers, was found dangling with the rope he allegedly used on the rail of the flyover by some passers-by on Sunday, according to sources.
It was learned that no suicide note was found on him.
“Until his sad end, he was always seen around the Swali market area. I don’t know if he was mad or not but he was always on his own, “ said a vegetable seller at the popular market, who simply identified herself as Mama John.
The spokesman of the state police command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said: “We have not been able to identify him (deceased) since the development came up yesterday or so.
“But the corpse was removed from the scene by the police and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue. Nobody has come forward to identify him.”
