Police Arrest two Ekiti Men for Stealing Fuel From Govt Generator
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two men for stealing fuel from a government generator. The suspects, identified as Danjuma and Idowu, were arrested on Wednesday, June 22, 2023, at Ikere Ekiti, while trying to get away with a 25-litre gallon containing diesel suspected to have been siphoned from the generating set.
The police said the suspects were caught in the act of siphoning fuel from the generator at the Ikere Local Government Secretariat. They were reportedly found with a jerrican of fuel when they were arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, said the suspects had confessed to stealing fuel from the generator on several occasions. He said they would be charged in court at the end of the investigation.
Abutu said, “The suspects confessed during interrogation that they committed the crime.
“The suspects also confessed that they have been selling the stolen diesel to unsuspecting residents of Ado-Ekiti, for some time. They will be arraigned in due course”, the police spokesperson said.
Abutu warned residents of the state to desist from fuel theft, saying it was a crime. He said the police would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone caught stealing fuel.
In other news, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, arraigned an Ilorin-based associate pastor with the Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel, Temidayo Eseyin, for allegedly defrauding Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, to the tune of N19.3 million.
Eseyin, a lawyer and former member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, was docked on a four-count bordering on dishonest misappropriation of funds belonging to the University before Justice Funsho Lawal of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.
In a petition to the EFCC, Eseyin, whilst being a counsel/attorney to Landmark University had access to her properties, title documents and funds. The assumed capacity, it was alleged that Eseyin was “cheating, defrauding, misappropriating and shortchanging his client to her utmost dismay”.
