Mauricio Pochettino, a former manager of Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain, has stated that he would be “open” to managing England in the future.

Pochettino picked his favorites for the 2022 World Cup, which begins on Sunday in Qatar, in an interview with The Athletic. He listed England in that group along with Argentina, France, and Brazil and praised Gareth Southgate’s team before revealing he would be open to managing the Three Lions at some point in the future.

”Their mentality, they are so brave, they are so offensive, they go to provoke the opponent and try to dominate,” Pochettino said when pressed on why he considers England among the contenders for the trophy. “They don’t care about the team that is in front (of them). They try to deliver their job. I like how they approach the game, and they have very good players.”

Regarding maybe taking over Southgate’s position in the future, the Argentine added:

“Of course, my relationship with England has always been very good. We have a very good relationship with the academies, trying to develop young players for the national team. I feel so comfortable here. You never know what happens. I am open to everything.”

Despite being connected to openings at Chelsea and Aston Villa this season, Pochettino, who formerly coached Tottenham and Southampton, has been jobless since being fired from PSG in July 2022. Since then, he has pondered on his time in the French capital and acknowledged that “there was too much grandeur” in him for them to accomplish their highly desired European triumph.
