PnB rock facts

  1. He was named Rakim after the famous rapper of the same name who was born in 1968.
  2. Rakim started selling drugs on the streets at the age of 15, living as a homeless person in shelters and also committing a few robberies to survive.
  3. His stage name PnB is short for Pastorius and Baynton. This is the name of the nearby street corner where Rakim grew up, mostly in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood.
  4. He was sentenced to 33 months in prison when he was 19 because of his illegal way of earning a living. After serving a two-year sentence, Rakim was released to remain on a half-board basis.
  5. While incarcerated, Rakim began writing songs based on the difficulties in his life. Before he went to prison, he was not interested in the rap music industry at all.
  6. During his school days, Rakim stated that he was always very popular with the girls as he had a great sense of humor and was often called the class clown.
  7. His popularity as an artist began on Instagram in 2013-2014 when Rakim joined the viral trend of making #TBH (to be honest) video posts in which he sang a response to someone else.
  8. In October 2016, Rolling Stone magazine named Rakim in their list of “10 New Artists You Need To Know”.
  9. The rapper rarely writes his songs on paper. Preferring to get into a state of mental flux, he captures the “mood” of a place or song and records his response in the form of a song. When he’s not in the studio, Rakim records his rap on his iPhone whenever he’s feeling inspired.
