On October 14, 2016, Pierre Étaix, known especially in France, for inheriting the tradition of slapstick, visual humor in the style of Buster Keaton, died at the age of 87. In 2010, 50,000 people, including personalities such as Woody Allen and Jean-Luc Godard, had signed a letter to request an end to the legal battle over rights issues that prevented the distribution of films by this actor and director.

Born in the French town of Roanne, on November 23, 1928, Pierre Étaix was very clear that he wanted to become a clown, so he trained in disciplines such as piano, violin, dance and gymnastics. After making his cabaret debut, he had a brief role in  Robert Bresson ‘s  Pickpocket . Later he took part in films like Max, my love and  Chantrapas .

He directed ten feature films and four shorts, one of them,  Heureux Anniversaire , winner of an Oscar in 1962. The legal conflict that confronted him with his distributor, the reason why his works could not be viewed, was not resolved until 2015.
