A controversial figure, he forever changed the world of music by creating the Wall of Sound. in 2009 he had been convicted of the second-degree murder of a waitress he had hooked up with in Los Angeles. Phil Spector passed away on January 16, 2021, at the age of 81, from complications of COVID-19, although he was impaired by various ailments.

Born on December 26, 1939, in The Bronx (New York), Harvey Philip Spector had a traumatic childhood, because when he was ten years old his father committed suicide. His mother took the whole family to Los Angeles. He began his journey in the world of music as a guitarist and composer for The Teddy Bears, a group that achieved notable success with “To Know Him Is To Love Him” ​​in 1958. Later he became an independent producer for artists such as Connie Francis, Elvis Presley , Ray Peterson and The Paris Sisters. In 1961 he created Philes Records with other partners, but in the end he bought all the shares to become the sole owner.

Among the many records that Phil Spectorproduced throughout his long career include “Let It Be” by Paul McCartney, “Plastic Ono Band” by John Lennon, and “End of the Century” by The Ramones. In his works he applied the “Wall of Sound” concept, which consisted in the fact that when arranging the musical themes of the artists, he resorted to a large orchestra, which included musicians who played many instruments, some unusual in rock. In addition, many post-production effects were included, such as echo room reverb. Divorced in 1963 from singer Annette Merar, he married Veronica Bennett, also known as Ronnie Spector, lead singer of The Ronettes, with whom he adopted three children. Later he had a relationship with Janis Lynn Zavala, with whom he had twins,

On February 3, 2003, the body of forty-year-old waitress and actress Lana Clarkson was found, with a gunshot wound to the mouth. Phil Spector  stated that it was an accidental death when she was making her kiss the gun. The jury found him guilty of second degree murder, and he was sentenced to 19 years in jail reviewable. At the time of her death, he was serving her sentence in the Stockton California prison.
