A controversial figure, he forever changed the world of music by creating the Wall of Sound. in 2009 he had been convicted of the second-degree murder of a waitress he had hooked up with in Los Angeles. Phil Spector passed away on January 16, 2021, at the age of 81, from complications of COVID-19, although he was impaired by various ailments.
Born on December 26, 1939, in The Bronx (New York), Harvey Philip Spector had a traumatic childhood, because when he was ten years old his father committed suicide. His mother took the whole family to Los Angeles. He began his journey in the world of music as a guitarist and composer for The Teddy Bears, a group that achieved notable success with “To Know Him Is To Love Him” in 1958. Later he became an independent producer for artists such as Connie Francis, Elvis Presley , Ray Peterson and The Paris Sisters. In 1961 he created Philes Records with other partners, but in the end he bought all the shares to become the sole owner.
Among the many records that Phil Spectorproduced throughout his long career include “Let It Be” by Paul McCartney, “Plastic Ono Band” by John Lennon, and “End of the Century” by The Ramones. On February 3, 2003, the body of forty-year-old waitress and actress Lana Clarkson was found, with a gunshot wound to the mouth.
