Pharrell Williams was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on April 5, 1973. He is the eldest of the three sons of teacher Carolyn and handyman Pharoah Williams. He attended Princess Anne High School alongside his long-time music partner, Chad Hugo. They met in a seventh-grade summer band camp, where Williams played drums and Hugo played tenor saxophone. Pharrel also attended Northwestern University but dropped out after two years to focus on his burgeoning music career.

Pharrell Williams began his music career in the 1990s forming a production and songwriting duo, with his long-time friend Chad Hugo. The duo with Shay Haley and Mike Etheridge entered a high school talent show, where they were discovered by producer Teddy Riley, who signed them after graduation.

As a member of The Neptunes, Pharrel Williams was responsible for producing some biggest hits songs in the late 90s and early 2000.  In 1999, the production duo formed the N.E.R.D with Shay Haley as a side project.

N.E.R.D.’s debut album, In Search Of…,  was released in the same year selling 603, 000 copies in the United States. They released their second album, Fly or Die, in 2004. In 2005, N.E.R.D. ended its contract with Virgin and disbanded to reunite later.

Prior to that, The Neptunes had released a compilation album titled, The Neptunes Present… Clones. The Album won them the “Producer of the Year” at the 2004 Grammy Awards. In 2006, Williams released his debut solo album, In My Mind. It debuted at number 3 on the US Billboard 200.

In 2021, William was involved in two top charting singles: Get Lucky”  by  Daft Punk and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, which was written and produced by Williams.  He also composed three new original songs for the film Despicable Me 2 (2013). One of the songs was happy, the most successful song of 2014, with 13.9 million units (sales plus equivalent streams) worldwide.

In 2014, he released his second album, Girl, and made a series of appearances on Television. He also headlined and performed at several festivals across the globe. In 2017, N.E.R.D released their fifth album, No One Ever Really Dies, The album had collaborations with many popular artists, including Kendrick Lamar,  Future, Wale, Gucci Mane, Rihanna, and Ed Sheeran.
