He was more popular than ever for playing Aemon Targaryen in “Game of Thrones.” But beyond the popular HBO series, Peter Vaughan left behind him a very long career as a secondary. The actor passed away on December 6, 2016 at the age of 93 at his residence in Mannings Heath, West Sussex, in the United Kingdom.

Born in Wem, Shropshire, England, on April 4, 1923, Peter Ewart Ohn was the son of a bank teller and a nurse. His family moved to Wellington, where he discovered his vocation at school, when after reciting a poem he earned the applause and admiration of his teachers and classmates.

When he joined the Wolverhampton Repertory Company in his youth, after leaving school, in the 1930s, he was unaware that he would be active for eight decades. He made his film debut at the hands of the maestro Alfred Hitchcock , briefly playing a policeman in 39 Steps .

Over the years he appeared in numerous films, although he became known internationally most notably with Trapped , where he was the antagonist, a British agent chasing Frank Sinatra . He was not showered with good reviews, since most made reference to his overacting.

Later he was the father-in-law of Jeremy Irons , in The French Lieutenant’s Wife . He became an actor fetish for Terry Gilliam , with whom he collaborated on Time’s Heroes , and Brazil . He was scheduled to appear in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote , which due to numerous misfortunes ended up being suspended.

He did some of his best work in Straw Dogs , where he played Tom Hedden, leader of the group of locals who harassed the shy mathematician played by Dustin Hoffman and his wife.

In recent years, Peter Vaughan had become very popular due to the enormous success of Game of Thrones , where he plays Aemon, from the Targaryen house, one of the members of the Night’s Watch, the group of warriors destined to protect the northern border of the kingdoms of Westeros, facing the wild tribes and other creatures located beyond the Wall. He is one of the main allies of one of the protagonists, Jon Snow.

Divorced in 1966 from Billie Whitelaw , also an actress , he remained together with Lillias Walker until his death. Outside the world of interpretation, he already had a daughter whom the interpreter has raised as his own, since he did not have any of his own.
