Peter sumner
Fans of “Star Wars” will remember the moment when an officer on the Death Star realizes that two stormtroopers are missing from their posts. He then gets hit by Chewbacca.
Although not mentioned in the film, the character had a name, Lieutenant Pol Treidum. He did not go out again, but the actor who played him, Peter Sumner , was quite loved by the fans, especially the Americans, because he was lavish in attendance at the saga’s congresses. The Australian passed away on November 23, 2016, at the age of 74, as a result of cancer.
Born in 1942 in Sydney, Peter Sumner began his career with roles in such titles as Ned Kelly opposite Mick Jagger . He was popular in his country, through the Spyforce series , when he moved with his wife and his children to try their luck in England. There, his agent informed him that they were looking for an actor to work for a couple of days on a “weird little American sci-fi movie.” He didn’t think twice.
When he arrived at the filming, at Elstree Studios, he was fascinated by the sets. “The first day, I was walking around, when a guy with crooked glasses appeared next to me, dressed in an old white shirt and gray pants,” recalls the actor. “I thought he was an accountant. He inquired about my Australian accent, and I was about to ask him who he was when a member of the team came up and said “Mr. Lucas, we’re ready. That was my meeting with the creator of the saga”. Apparently he gained £60, a generous amount for the time, for his work.
In 1999 he reprized as Pol Treidum, in a fan-made short titled The Dark Redemption . He was the only actor from the original to appear.
