After starring in “Easy Rider. Looking for my destiny”, he became one of the symbols of the counterculture. But he had an erratic run. Peter Fonda passed away on August 16, 2019 from respiratory complications, because he had suffered from lung cancer for a long time. This was confirmed by his sister, Jane Fonda. “In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we have no words to express the pain in our hearts,” said the actress.

It was a multipurpose within the Hollywood industry. We saw him in front of and behind the camera, writing and even investing. His extensive career was always in the shadow of his father, the illustrious Henry Fonda.

He was born on February 23, 1940 in New York, United States. His father, in addition to giving him a large film inheritance, gave him his name: Peter Henry Fonda. It was strange that with a family so dedicated to the profession he was less. His sister was the famous Jane Fonda and his daughter Bridget Fonda , who together with him is the least recognized.

His artistic career began in 1961 with the performance of “Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole” on Broadway, thanks to which he received the Daniel Blum Theater World Award and received rave reviews. On the big screen she started two years later with the film about World War II, The Winners . In 1966 the “road movie” Los angeles del inferno was released , a drama full of action and violence about the mythical motorcycle gang. It was the prelude to one of his great feature films. Just one year later, he shares a set with Bruce Dern again under the orders of Roger Corman in the psychedelic The Trip . It is the first film that talks about LSD, whose script was by Jack Nicholson.

His consecration as a star came in 1969 with Easy Rider , a “road movie” directed by Dennis Hopper and performed and written by both. It is a film that marked an era: it tells the journey of two motorcyclists who cross the entire country and coincide with numerous characters. She was nominated for two Oscars, including a screenplay, although she failed to achieve any.

During the 70s he subscribed to the action genre and acted in several productions of little name, although he also decided to try as a director. Man Without Borders , Journey to the Future and Wanda Nevada were his bets. Two westerns and one science fiction that were not very successful. The 80s passed unnoticed by Peter, who couldn’t get over the failure of his films as a director.

We reach the 90s and see his resurrection as an actor thanks to several titles: the dark and peculiar vision of Dracula in Nadja (1995), a film produced by David Lynch ; John Carpenter’s 2013 post-apocalyptic future: LA Rescue , where he shared blueprints with Kurt Russell and Steve Buscemi; and the drama The Gold of Ulysses , his return to the top, where he won the Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for playing a faithful and good-hearted farmer who has to protect his family in the face of a threat.

Before entering the 21st century, he had time to win another two Golden Globes, although this time for his role in several TV movies: The Passion of Ayn Ran (2000), a biopic about the eccentric writer whose romances with both young as with married they went around the world; and The Tempest (1998), a fantasy drama about betrayal and envy. Inexplicably, these awards did not give her the necessary strength to get important roles on the screen, although she continued to work in significant productions. In 2007 she premiered three films in which she shared a set with numerous renowned artists such as John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Russell Crowe, Christian Bale or William H. Macy. Wild Hogs , Ghost Rider: The Ghost Riderand The 3:10 Train are so different that they show Fonda’s chameleonic capacity when it comes to adapting to new projects.

A few months before his death, he presented the restored version of Easy Rider at the Cannes Film Festival, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the film receiving the award for best debut feature in the competition.
