202 episodes of Bonanza were shot by actor Pernell Roberts (the series consisted of 430) between 1959 and 1965. He played Adam, the eldest of the Cartwright brothers, the protagonists of the famous series. Roberts passed away on January 24, 2010 at his California residence at the age of 81.

Born on May 18, 1928 in Waycross (Georgia), Pernell Elvin Roberts dedicated himself to singing in various venues until he enlisted in the Marines, with whom he spent two years. Determined to dedicate himself to acting, he performed various theatrical productions on Broadway.

After a series of very minor film roles, fame came to him for playing Ben Cartwright in the legendary series Bonanza , to which he dedicated six years of his life. His resignation to continue playing the character caused some commotion, as he was at the peak of his success. The series continued to lead the audience figures for another eight years. Although the writers had left open the possibility of an eventual return of Pernell, he never wanted to return to the La Ponderosa ranch.

Since then, he has become a luxury guest on the most popular series, such as Ironside , Vacation at Sea or Mission Impossible . He achieved success again playing a doctor in the series MASH with Alan Alda . He did not stop working until the 1990s, when he was already of advanced age. Although he stands out above all on television, he could be seen on film in titles like Wish Under the Elms and Ride Lonely .
