On Wednesday, former Vice President Mike Pence launched his campaign for the White House, marking the beginning of a political showdown with his former boss and running mate, ex-President Donald Trump. Pence had been a staunch supporter of Trump until the violent insurrection at the Capitol, which led to a change in their relationship.
On Monday, Pence took a significant step by filing paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission, officially declaring his candidacy for the GOP nomination. However, he wasted no time and launched his campaign early Wednesday morning, after he shared a compelling video where he portrayed himself as the ideal leader for these challenging times. Later that day, in Iowa, Pence delivered a powerful speech where he didn’t hold back, openly criticizing his former boss with much stronger language.
Pence in his world said “I had the great honor to serve in Congress, as governor, and as your vice president. And I’ll always be proud of the progress we made together for a stronger, more prosperous America,” Pence says in the video.
“But today, our country’s in a lot of trouble. President Joe Biden and the radical left have weakened America at home and abroad. The American dream is being crushed under runaway inflation. Wages are dropping, recession is looming. Our southern border is under siege, and the enemies of freedom are on the march around the world. And we’re still timeless American values are under assault as never before,”
As though this wasn’t enough, Pence went ahead in the video to disclose what President Trump said to him that threw everything off balance and aided the capitol riot as he said
“On that fateful date, President Trump’s words were reckless, and he endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol. But the American people deserve to know that on that day, President Trump also demanded that I choose between him and our Constitution. Now voters will be faced with the same choice. I chose the Constitution and I always will,” Pence said.
“I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States, and anyone who asks someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president again,”
Pence has a lot to do if he will successfully separate himself from his former boss, proving he is in fact a better choice, aside, he will have to convince the people of America and gain more support to be able to become a true contender in the coming election.
