  1. He officially moved to Europe in July 2012 when he was signed by Italian club, Palermo . The deal was valued at over 5 million euros.
  2. In June 2015, he was signed by Italian giants Juventus in a five-year deal. Juventus had paid Palermo €32m and pledged a further €8m for performance and looks-related additions.
  3. It was his father’s dream that one of his sons would become a professional soccer player. Although he never pushed Paulo to play football, Paulo fulfilled his father’s dream.
  4. He started kicking football at the age of 2. During his childhood he played a lot on the field next to the local train station. The used truck tires served as makeshift seating on the pitch.
  5. In his youth he tried to emulate Ronaldinho’s dribbles and tricks while playing with his friends.
  6. He was discovered by the Instituto de Cordobalegendary scout, Santos Turza. Turza only saw him play 10 minutes before deciding to put Adolfo Dybala (Paulo’s father) aside and tell him of his intentions to sign Paulo.
  7. Dybala’s father himself always accompanied him to Instituto’s training center La Agustina, which was about 70 kilometers from their home.
  8. When he was 14, his father died after a long battle with colon cancer. Instituto agreed to let him play for Newell’s Old Boys in his hometown of Laguna Larga. Shortly after his father’s death, Paulo gave everything up for a short time.
  9. It was his trainer Walter Obregon at Old Boys who helped him deal with the emotional pain. Interestingly, it was Paulo’s father who brought Obregon into the club. Indeed, Paulo’s father had asked Obregon to look after his son’s progress, but he never knew that Obregon would play such a direct role.
  10. He earned the nickname La Joya (The Jewel) from Argentine journalist Marcos Villalobo, who scored his first goal for Instituto against Aldosivi. The goal also made him the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer, ahead of previous record-holder and Argentinian legend Mario Kempes.
  11. He has done extensive charity work in his hometown, including donating a classroom to a center for disabled children.
