Paulina garcia
It surprised moviegoers everywhere when, despite being a practice unknown to them, it won the acting award in Berlin. An eminently theatrical actress who triumphs above all on the Chilean stage, Paulina García has also managed to excite with some work on the screen.
Born on November 27, 1960 in the capital of Chile, Paulina García Alfonso. She studied Theater Interpretation and Direction at the School of Theater of the Catholic University. On the university campus, she debuted as an actress with “Where will Jeanette be?”, by Luis Rivano, for which she won an APES award for best actress.
Since then, Paulina García , also known as Paly García, has not interrupted her activity in the theater, where she really feels at home. She has intervened in productions of works by authors such as Euripides (“The Trojan Women”) or Anton Chekhov (“Uncle Vanya”), and has directed revisions of texts by John Osborne (“Looking Back in Anger”) and others.
He made his television debut with the soap opera Los títeres . But she didn’t appear in the movies until she was past forty, in the drama Three Saturday Nights , where she was a wild lady whom a womanizer tried to seduce. After titles like Cachimba and Casa de remolienda, she won the Silver Bear for Best Female Performance in Berlin, for Gloria (2013) .by Sebastián Lelio. She plays a mature woman who begins an affair with a man who turns out to be obsessed with her former partner. “When I received the award, all the actors in Chile went through my mind, especially those of my generation, who were trained in the theater. That is why we have been criticized many times for being too theatrical. This recognition confirms the category of actors who we came to be,” said the actress.
