Deen started working at a home business, The Bag Lady. In 1991, Paula moved to Savannah, Georgia on Abercorn Street in 1991. He opened a restaurant, The Lady & Sons in January 1996. Currently, The Lady’s Restaurant has been named “International Meal of the Year”.
Paula works alongside her sons who are managers. Previously, Paula owned four casinos, including Harrah’s Casino Tunica in Mississippi, Harrah’s Cherokee casino in North Carolina, Horseshoe Southern Indiana and Harrah’s Joliet in Illinois. However, the casinos were rebranded after Paula was removed from the Food Network.

PAULA DEEN FRIED CHICKEN
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup water
- About 1 cup hot red pepper sauce (recommended: Texas Pete)
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- Homemade seasoning, recipe follows
- 1 chicken (1 to 2 1/2 pounds), cut into pieces
- Oil for frying, preferably peanut oil
House seasoning:
- 1 cup salt
- 1/4 cup black pepper
- 1/4 cup garlic powder
Directions
In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the water. Add enough hot sauce to make the egg mixture bright orange. In another bowl, mix the flour and pepper. Season the chicken with the homemade seasoning. Dip seasoned chicken in egg, then coat well with flour mixture.
Heat oil to 350 degrees F in a deep saucepan. Do not fill the pot more than halfway with oil. Fry chicken in oil until brown and crispy. Dark meat takes longer than white meat. Dark meat should take about 13-14 minutes, white meat about 8-10 minutes.
House seasoning:
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
