Biography
Paul McCartney CH MBE was born in Liverpool on the 18th of June, 1942. His parents are James McCartney, a volunteer firefighter during World War II, and Mary Patricia, a practising nurse at the Walton Hospital.
Paul McCartney attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School in Speke from 1947 to 1949. Later on, he transferred to Joseph Williams Junior School in Belle Vale due to the reason of overcrowding at the Stockton school. In 1953, he sat for and passed the 11-Plus exam alongside two other students out of 90 candidates. His past means he could attend the Liverpool Institute (a grammar school) instead of a secondary modern school.
In 1954, he met George Harrison (a member of the Beatles) who was at the time a schoolmate. They became friends almost immediately and later went ahead to make history together.
Paul McCartney’s father was a trumpet player and pianist. He led the Jim Mac’s Jazz Band in the 1920s. He also encouraged Paul McCartney as a child, to be musical and take up piano lessons. When Paul McCartney turned 11, he encouraged him to take up auditioning for the Liverpool Cathedral Choir. But unfortunately, Paul McCartney was not accepted. After then, he joined the choir at St. Barnabas Church, Mossley Hill.
On his 14th birthday, he received a nickel-plated trumpet from his father but sold it when rock and roll became popular on Radio Luxembourg. He traded the trumpet for a £15 Framus Zenith (model 17) acoustic guitar because he wanted to be able to sing while playing his instrument.
Initially, he had difficulty playing the guitar with his right hand, but after coming about an advertisement for a Slim Whiteman concert, he reversed the order of the strings. From there, he started composing songs and performing publicly.
Unfortunately, his mother died of an embolism as a complication of surgery for breast cancer when he was still 14 (October 1956). The passing of his mother took a toll on him but it became a source of connection with John Lennon who also lost his mother at the age of 17.

Career
Specifically, Paul McCartney met John Lennon and his band (the Quarrymen) on the 6th of July, 1957 when he was just 15. They met at the St. Peter’s Church Hall fête in Woolton. The Quarrymen group played a mix of rock and roll, and skiffle which is a type of popular music with jazz, blues, and folk influences. Later on, the members of the band invited McCartney to join the group as a rhythm guitarist. However, this ended up earning both Paul McCartney and John Lennon a close relationship.
Asides from first gaining his world recognition as a co-lead vocalist, co-songwriter, and bassist for the Beatles. It is also established that his song-writing partnership with John Lennon remains the most successful in history.
The Beatles
In 1960, the group changed their name to The Beatles and recruited drummer, Pete Best. Harrison was the lead guitarist and Stuart Sutcliffe was the bassist.
In 1961, Stuart Sutcliffe left the band and Paul McCartney became the bass player. In Hamburg, the group recorded professionally for the first time and were credited as the “Beat Brothers” who were the backing band for the English singer Tony Sheridan on the single “My Bonnie”. Fortunately, the group got the attention of Brian Epstein who later on played a major role in the group’s subsequent development and success. Soon afterwards, Brian Epstein became the group’s manager in January 1962. Later that year in October, the band had its first hit with “Love Me Do”. This resulted in the band’s popularity in the UK in 1963, and also in the US a year later. Subsequently, Paul McCartney co-wrote most of the band’s early hits with John Lennon. This includes I Saw Her Standing There, She Loves You, Can’t Buy Me Love, and, I Want to Hold Your Hand.
In August 1967, Brian Epstein’s death created a void in the Beatles Group, and this ended up affecting the better future running of the group. Paul McCartney stepped in and gradually became the de facto leader and business manager of the group. In his first creative suggestion, Paul McCartney proposed that the band move forward with their plans to produce a film for television but it didn’t work out as planned. However, the film’s soundtrack was more successful.
