Patrick Wilson

Singing or acting, Patrick Wilson almost always manages to win over the public and critics. Although due to his youth he still does not have an extensive filmography, the great directors trust his possibilities. What do they see?

Patrick Wilson was born in 1973 in Norfolk, Virginia (United States). After finishing his acting and singing studies at the Carnegie Mellon School, he began to appear in musical theater plays, where he made his first steps in both artistic specialties. On Broadway he began to hone his own style in performances of various genres, from classics like “Romeo and Juliet” to modern plays like “Full Monty.”

At the age of 28, he made his film debut with a mediocre comedy entitled My Sister’s Wedding (2001). In it, he had little time to shine, but it helped him so that, two years later, Mike Nichols   ( The Graduate ) bet on him and gave him the leading role in the miniseries Angels in America , a production that won numerous awards in the United States and which earned Wilson two Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

A year later, he put himself in the shoes of an independentista in El Álamo (2004) , an ill-fated remake of the classic western directed by John Wayne in 1960. Wilson played William Travis here, a very idealistic and stubborn Texan, who tries to defend his territory from the siege of the Mexican troops. Although the film did not get the expected reviews, the actor was very successful.

Joel Schumacher ( Last Call ) also realized his potential and cast him as Raúl in a new musical adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) . Wilson not only reaffirmed his skills as an actor here, but also surprised as a tenor by giving voice to some of Andrew Lloyd Webber ‘s classic rock-opera themes , such as “Think of Me” or “The Mirror”.

In 2005, he starred with Ellen Page in that strange intrigue that was Hard Candy . Thriller from start to finish, where Wilson played an extremely ambiguous and confusing role that suddenly dispelled the audience’s doubts as the plot underwent a 180-degree turn. Then came the romantic drama Secret Games , in which she shared the stage with Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly , and the comedy Clippings of My Life , starring Gwyneth Paltrow .

And the roles continued to rain down on this young actor who has been strong from the beginning. In 2007 he premiered El atardecer , another love drama where he had the opportunity to rub shoulders with big stars, such as Glenn Close , Vanessa Redgrave or Meryl Streep . Lately we have been able to see him in the thriller Passengers , and Protected by his Enemy : in this one, Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington are an interracial couple who share a neighborhood with a guy who doesn’t accept their relationship. Samuel L. Jackson will be in charge of protecting them… or not.

Several titles are pending release in Spain: Brothers Three: an American Gothic, Purple Violets , Watchmen , Life in Flight and Barry Munday .
