Biography of Patrick Dupond
Patrick Dupond was born in Paris on March 14, 1959 and died on Friday March 5, 2021. Dupond is a former French star dancer of the Paris Opera ballet. After an international career, he relaunched on television as a juror for programs such as La France a unincredible talent (2007–2008) and especially Prodiges on France 2 in 2014, where he judged future talents in classical dance. .
He made a name for himself in 1976 by winning the gold medal at the Varna International Ballet Competition in Bulgaria.
In 1980 he was named star dancer of the Opéra national de Paris, and met with considerable success in France and abroad. He works with eminent dancers including Rudolf Nureyev, Maurice Béjart and Alvin Ailey.
10 years later he became director of dance for the Paris Opera ballet, thus succeeding Nureyev. He left this function in 1995. In 2000, he was the victim of a serious car accident and 134 fractures. The doctors think he will never dance again. But the star dancer hangs on, he works again and again. And start dancing again. He opened two dance schools to pass on his passion and he participated in television projects. He wants to make classical dance accessible to everyone. At the age of 61, he died following a devastating illness. the disappearance of Patrick Dupond, which occurred on Friday March 5, 2021.

Patrick Dupond entered the Ecole Nationale de l’Opéra de Paris at the age of ten. Five years later, and with special permission, in view of his exceptional gifts, he joined the corps de ballet of the prestigious company. It was at the age of 16 that he began to interpret roles of “Etoile” while climbing the hierarchical levels of the National Theater.
Propelled onto the international scene in 1976 thanks to his triumphant victory at the international dance competition in Varna (Bulgaria), in 1976, organized by the very famous Bolshoi Theater in Moscow at the age of only 17, the dancer Patrick Dupond obtained the title of Star Dancer in 1980.
His taste for the diversity and accessibility of dance pushes him to be both present on the stages of the greatest international theaters.
For 17 years, with her soul mate, Leïla Da Rocha , they traveled together, combining the classic elegance of the Star Dancer and the cultural richness of the Choreographer’s journey. They dedicate their lives and their art to the service of humanity.

- Often alone during his career as a dancer, he saw homosexual relationships that he later regretted. He declares that they were “a mistake”, “a parody of love”.
- With his lover Leïla Da Rocha , Patrick Dupond claims to have lost all selfishness and appreciates saying “ we ”. The couple teach together in Soissons but will soon move to Bordeaux, from mid-September, to open an international dance academy. Fulfilled on all levels, he feels no regrets. “ I believe that it was necessary for me to go through all these trials to be worthy of his love. (…) I wake up every day with the growing certainty that she is the woman of my life , “he says.
