Patrick Chung is a strong professional Jamaican-American footballer in the National Football League (NFL). He plays under the New England Patriots after the team drafted him in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Before that, he finished his collegiate game at Oregon and was also a member of the Eagles of Philadelphia.

The footballer was born as Patrick Christopher Chung on August 19, 1987 in Kingston, Jamaica. He grew up in a family of ten including his four brothers and three sisters. His mother Sophia George Chung is a Jamaican reggae artist. While his father Ronald Chung worked as a music producer and his mother’s manager. Additionally, he is of mixed ethnicity with partial Chinese and Jamaican descent. At the age of ten, he moved with his family to California. He then attended and completed high school in Rancho Cucamonga, California. While in high school, he played football as a safety catcher and wide receiver and twice earned an All-League pick.
After that, he moved to the University of Oregon in 2004 where he donned a red shirt and took over as rover in 2005, placing second. During his junior years, the player had received second-team All-American, first-team All-Pac-10 Conference, and the Gordon E. Wilson Award. Additionally, he also earned All-Pac 10 honor in 2005-08 and holds the start in more games in Oregon history than any other defensive player in his collegiate games.

In 2008, he announced he would be entering the NFL Draft, but decided to return to his senior year in Oregon collegiate play. After the year, he participated in the 2009 Senior Bowl as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. The same year, the New England Patriots selected him in the second round and 34th overall. However, he was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Patriots as the second-round pick. Then he signed with the Patriots for $5 million and a four-year deal with a $2 million signing bonus. He finished his rookie year with 37 combined tackles, two sacks and one interception in 16 games and one start.
After being released from the Patriots, he signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 12, 2013 with $10 million and $4 million guaranteed. However, he was released by the team after just one season, saying he was largely attributed to his injuries and tackle issues and multiple mishaps. On April 3, he signed Patriots to a $1.10 million contract that includes a $120,000 guarantee and a $60,000 signing bonus.
After his three-year contract extended with $8.20 million with $3.40 million guaranteed and $2.40 million in signing bonuses, he made a solo tackle in their 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks. As of 2021, he plays under the Patriots with his two-year contract extension until the 2023 season game.
