Pasha Kovalev, a professional Latin and ballroom dancer born in Siberia, rose to fame after appearing on the third season of the American version of So You Think You Can Dance in 2007. He also participated in the following eight seasons as choreographers or All-Star partners to competitors.

Kovalev started dancing when he was eight years old. He danced with his partner Anya Garnis in the Latin amateur division in Russia until 2000. After moving to the United States, Kovalev and Garnis turned professional and began performing in the United States, United Kingdom and in Canada in 2002. Their achievements as finalists at the US Open from 2002 to 2006.

On February 13, 2019, Pasha Kovalev revealed that he would be leaving Strictly Come Dancing after eight wonderful years. The Russian dancer announced the news on his Twitter account, saying it was time for him to find a new adventure.

“Thank you to the wonderful partners, staff, and myriad behind-the-scenes departments all working to make Strictly the exceptional product that it is,” he wrote. He also appreciated the public for helping him over the years.

In Season 5, Kovalev and Garnis choreographed Samba for Evan Kasprzak and Randi Evans. In season 6, he and Garnis returned to So You Think You Can Dance to lead the choreographies during auditions, and later in the season they choreographed a Jive for Russell Ferguson and Mollee Gray.

Kovalev was named an “All-Star” for season 7 and season 8 of the competition, performing all Latin and ballroom styles with contestants including champions Lauren Froderman and Melanie Moore. With Season 9, the following year, Janelle Issis and Dareian Kujawa returned to choreograph with Cha-cha in the third week of concerts.

Finally, on July 16, 2014, Kovalev and Garnis returned to choreograph the new Jive routine for Bridget Whitman and Emilio Dosal during season 11.
