Paritosh Bannerji (born 1938) is a retired Indian IAS officer from Kolkata, India. He served in various government departments as an officer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) for over 50 years.

In addition, he traveled to various Indian cities for work purposes. He married Shakuntala Devi (a social worker, writer, and mathematician) in the mid-1960s.

However, the couple soon ended their marriage in 1979. Bannerji is gay. Shakuntala’s life was changed for the better by being in a relationship with a gay man.

Early life

Paritosh Bannerji was born in 1938 in Calcutta, West Bengal. He grew up in a Brahmin environment. Still, the information of his father, brothers and his mother is not available on the internet platforms.

He knew of his homosexuality. Other than that, he tried to concentrate on his studies and completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the university.

Shakuntala Devi’s husband applied for the Union Public Commission (UPSC) exam and passed the most difficult exam on his first attempt. He then joined the IAS as an officer and served the nation for 50 years.
