    Lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has officially withdrawn from the APC Lagos House of Assembly primary for Surulere 1 following tension and controversy at the polling venue.

    Elliot announced his withdrawal on Wednesday after arriving at the Paddington Mini Stadium alongside his supporters and political associates.

    Supporters allegedly denied entry

    Speaking to journalists at the venue, the lawmaker alleged that several of his supporters were prevented from gaining access to the polling area despite repeated appeals to electoral officials.

    According to him, attempts to resolve the situation peacefully were unsuccessful, leading to growing tension around the exercise.

    The election was eventually disrupted as protests broke out over the alleged exclusion of some party members from the process.

    Desmond speaks on withdrawal

    In a video that later surfaced online, Elliot said he decided to step down from the race to avoid violence and protect lives.

    “I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race, good luck, thank you, and God bless you,” he said.

    His supporters were also seen leaving the venue peacefully alongside him.

    Fresh controversy after apology to Gbajabiamila

    The development comes hours after Elliot publicly apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila during an interview on TVC’s Your View.

    The apology followed recent comments by Gbajabiamila, who revealed that President Bola Tinubu nearly sanctioned him over intelligence reports linking Elliot to the Lagos Assembly speakership crisis involving Mudashiru Obasa.

    Gbajabiamila stated that he denied the allegation at the time.

    Tension rocks APC primary venue

    Wednesday’s primary election was eventually stalled as tensions escalated at the venue over complaints of intimidation and alleged exclusion of party loyalists.

    Elliot maintained that he would not allow any political contest to lead to violence or loss of lives.

    The Onisa of Esin Ele in Oyo State, Muraina Mutairo, has invoked traditional gods following the recent attack on schools and the abduction of pupils, students and teachers in Aholo-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area.

    The traditional ruler was seen in a viral video performing traditional rites while calling on the gods to go after those responsible for the attack and ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.

    Beheaded Teacher’s Photos Emerge

    Meanwhile, photos of one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedekun, have surfaced online following reports of his death.

    Oyedekun was reportedly beheaded by the attackers in a disturbing video that circulated widely on social media earlier this week.

    The footage sparked grief and condemnation nationwide, with many Nigerians calling on the government to strengthen security and protect vulnerable communities.

    Family Appeals Over Viral Video

    Amid the spread of the graphic footage, a family member identified as Adesewa Oladosu appealed to Nigerians to stop sharing the video of the teacher’s killing.

    In an emotional Facebook post, she described the continued circulation of the footage as deeply traumatising for the family, especially the deceased’s children and relatives.

    She urged the public to use only officially approved family photographs whenever discussing the incident online.

    The development has also reignited conversations around the psychological impact of violent content shared on social media during national tragedies.

     

  • “I’m Coming Back to Lagos” — Lady Cries Out Over Alleged Herdsmen Attack in Imo Community

    A Nigerian lady has triggered emotional reactions online after crying out over an alleged attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a community in Imo State.

    In a viral video circulating on social media, the visibly distressed woman lamented the growing insecurity in the area, claiming residents were forced to flee their homes during the alleged attack.

    “People Don Scatter”

    According to her, the attackers allegedly invaded the community, kidnapped residents for ransom and destroyed properties around the local market area.

    “I’m coming back to Lagos. Fulani herdsmen attacked our community,” she said emotionally in the video.

    The woman further claimed that fear and uncertainty have now become part of daily life for many people living in some parts of the South-East.

    “People have to run and leave their homes. They can actually kill anybody they like and kidnap people to ask for ransom. People don scatter. I’m coming back please,” she added.

    Fear Over Rising Insecurity

    Her comments have added to growing concerns over insecurity across different parts of the country, especially attacks linked to kidnappings and armed violence.

    The video quickly gained traction online, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy and calling on security agencies to strengthen protection for residents.

  • NDLEA Dismantles Nigerian–Mexican Meth Cartel, Recovers ₦480 Billion Drugs in Ogun Forest Lab

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered and dismantled a major transnational methamphetamine production syndicate involving Nigerian and Mexican nationals in Ogun State.

    The operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects, including three Mexican drug “chemists” and the alleged Nigerian kingpin of the cartel.

    Forest meth lab uncovered in Ogun

    According to NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), the clandestine laboratory was discovered inside Abidagba forest in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

    The agency said the site was being used for large-scale production of methamphetamine disguised as a farm settlement.

    ₦480 billion worth of drugs recovered

    Marwa disclosed that operatives recovered 2,419.48 kilograms of chemical substances and finished meth products from the lab.

    He said the seized drugs have an estimated street value of about ₦480 billion in the international market.

    “The network did not just traffic drugs; they were actively manufacturing industrial-scale quantities of highly lethal illicit substances right on our soil,” Marwa said.

    10 suspects arrested, including Mexicans

    Those arrested include the alleged cartel leader, Anochili Innocent, alongside six Nigerian collaborators and three Mexican nationals reportedly brought in as technical experts.

    The Mexican suspects were identified as Martinez Felix Nemecto, Jesus López Valles, and Torrero Juan Carlos.

    Other Nigerian suspects include Nwankwo Sunday Christian, Igwe Abuchi Remijus, Ifeanyichukwu Chibuike Joshua, Egwuonwu Uchenna Victor, and Kingsley Orike Omonughwa.

    Lagos luxury estate linked to cartel boss

    NDLEA operatives also reportedly stormed properties linked to the kingpin in Lagos, including a luxury residence in Lakowe, Lekki.

    The agency said international passports and mobile phones of the Mexican suspects were recovered from the suspect’s residence, linking him directly to their operations.

    Coordinated intelligence operation

    Marwa said the raid was executed by the agency’s Special Operations Unit after months of intelligence gathering.

    He added that simultaneous operations were carried out across Ogun and Lagos States within 48 hours.

    NDLEA warns drug cartels

    The NDLEA boss warned drug traffickers that Nigeria remains hostile territory for illicit drug production and distribution.

    He also urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities, including unusual chemical smells or movements in rural communities.

    “This war is for the soul of our nation, and we will not back down until we achieve a drug-free Nigeria,” he said.

  • Tinubu Aide, Daniel Bwala, Says Nigerians Have Right to Self-Defence Amid Rising Insecurity

    The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has stated that Nigerians have the constitutional right to defend themselves against attackers, including using lethal force where necessary.

    Bwala made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television while reacting to recent killings and abductions in parts of Oyo State.

    “Government will end killings” — Bwala

    He said the Federal Government remains committed to ending insecurity across the country, stressing that criminal elements operate globally but can be defeated through collective effort.

    “Solution is what we all look to… we will put an end to this as a people,” he said.

    He added that periods around elections often witness spikes in violence due to what he described as opportunistic criminal activity.

    Nigerians have right to self-defence

    Bwala also emphasised that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees citizens the right to self-defence.

    According to him, individuals are permitted to protect themselves if their lives are threatened inside their homes.

    “The constitution has guaranteed to every citizen of Nigeria the right to self-defence,” he said.

    He further explained that Nigerians may use necessary force to repel attackers if their lives are in danger.

    Call for collective security effort

    The presidential aide also highlighted the role of vigilante groups and community-based security structures in supporting law enforcement agencies.

    He noted that while citizens do not have unrestricted access to firearms, communities can legally organise themselves under government supervision to enhance local security intelligence.

  • FG Begins Payment of BEA Scholars’ Allowances, Says 50% Outstanding Funds Released

    The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of outstanding allowances owed to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries.

    The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on 19 May 2026.

    FG confirms release of funds

    According to the Ministry, the Central Bank of Nigeria has successfully remitted approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions abroad for immediate disbursement to eligible scholars.

    The statement explained that the payment covers 50 percent of the outstanding 2025 obligations, while efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining balance.

    Minister assures students abroad

    The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the released funds have already been sent to embassy accounts, adding that affected missions are expected to begin immediate payments.

    He urged students under the BEA programme to monitor their accounts as disbursement begins.

    Tinubu administration restates commitment

    The Ministry said the development reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the welfare of Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

    Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to the statement, remains focused on improving education support systems and fulfilling obligations to scholars under government scholarship schemes.

    FG reiterates education support

    The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to honouring legitimate obligations to Nigerian students abroad and sustaining policies aimed at strengthening education and human capital development.

    Officials added that the BEA programme remains a key component of Nigeria’s international education partnerships.

    Eghbali also admitted that the managerial situation negatively affected Chelsea’s season.

    “It’s a change that’s had a bit of a negative impact on the season, when you’re changing systems and personnel. And it’s one we’ve got to fight our way out of,” he added.

    Relationship reportedly broke down

    Maresca’s departure reportedly came after tensions developed between him and Chelsea management late last year.

    According to reports, the relationship deteriorated after the coach complained about a lack of support following Chelsea’s Champions League defeat against Atalanta B.C..

    The Italian manager allegedly described the aftermath of the defeat as his “worst 48 hours” at Stamford Bridge.

    Further reports claimed he also ignored advice from Chelsea’s medical department regarding player fitness and game management before news emerged of his talks with Manchester City and Juventus F.C..

    Despite the controversy, individuals close to Maresca reportedly insisted that Chelsea were informed about discussions with other clubs before the situation escalated.

  • Gunmen Kill Vigilante Officer During Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

    A 25-year-old vigilante officer, Daniel Danladi Choji, has been killed following a fresh attack by gunmen on Tanjol village in Jol District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

    Residents disclosed that the attack occurred on Tuesday night after armed men reportedly invaded the community, forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes and rocky areas for safety.

    Several residents were also said to have sustained injuries while escaping from the attackers, who were suspected to be armed Fulani bandits.

    Attackers stormed communities in groups

    The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday.

    According to him, the attackers invaded Vwak and Tanjol communities in multiple groups and opened fire indiscriminately before security operatives responded.

    He explained that the deceased vigilante officer was killed while carrying out patrol duties alongside other security personnel.

    “The attackers stormed the Vwak and Tanjol communities in more than five groups, shooting indiscriminately before they were repelled by a combined team of Operation Rainbow and security operatives,” the statement read.

    BYM demands urgent action

    The youth association condemned the attack and urged the Plateau State Government and security agencies to take urgent measures to prevent further violence in affected communities.

    The group also called for restrictions on grazing activities in the area, alleging a connection between grazing movements and recurring attacks within communities in the state.

    “We also urged authorities to halt grazing activities in the affected areas as there is a link between such movements and repeated attacks,” Tengwong stated.

    The association further demanded intensified military operations in areas suspected to be hideouts for armed groups.

    “Failure to act decisively could lead to continued loss of lives in Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt region,” he added.

    Killings continue despite promises

    Plateau State has witnessed years of violent attacks, communal clashes and armed invasions that have claimed thousands of lives and displaced many residents across different communities.

    Despite repeated assurances by successive governments to end the violence, attacks and killings have continued in parts of the state.

  • DHQ Denies Existence of Terrorist Base in South-West Amid Oyo School Abduction

    The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports suggesting the existence of a terrorist base in the South-West, insisting that ongoing military operations are targeted at rescuing abducted victims and tracking criminal elements behind recent attacks in Oyo State.

    The clarification was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja.

    DHQ reacts to Oyo school attack

    Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, had sympathised with the government and people of Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

    He condemned the attack on the affected schools, describing the abduction of innocent children and education workers as criminal and unacceptable.

    According to him, the Armed Forces have already deployed personnel and operational resources to ensure the victims are rescued safely.

    “The full weight of the Armed Forces is being brought to bear to ensure the safe return of all abducted victims,” he said.

    “No terrorist base in South-West”

    The defence spokesman maintained that intelligence available to security agencies does not support claims of an organised terrorist structure operating in the South-West region.

    According to him, previous clearance operations carried out within the Old Oyo National Park had already neutralised criminal elements operating around the area.

    “The incident in Oyo State remains an isolated criminal act and does not indicate the presence of an entrenched insurgent structure in the region,” Onoja stated.

    He warned against spreading narratives capable of creating panic or emboldening criminal groups.

    Troops tracking abductors

    Onoja further disclosed that troops had established contact with the abductors and were currently sustaining pursuit operations across forest routes linked to the attack.

    He said joint operations involving other security agencies and local vigilante groups were ongoing to flush out criminal elements and restore normalcy in affected communities.

    The military also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to aid rescue operations.

    “The Armed Forces will not relent until all abducted victims are rescued and those responsible are brought to justice,” he added.
