No doubt, the defeat to Leicester on Saturday has left the United boss facing a critical week in charge as Atalanta and rivals Liverpool come to town. It is thought that United chiefs have no intentions of wielding the axe on their manager just yet, but if form continues to dip, they may begin to think otherwise.
And it will doubtless not be overlooked by the club’s hierarchy that former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is still currently out of work.
The Frenchman led Madrid to three Champions League triumphs in his two spells in charge of the club but is still enjoying a break from the game after leaving his post at the end of last season.
It is arguable why United may stick with Solskjaer after his impressive start, Solskjaer’s failure to win a trophy as yet still sticks out like a sore thumb, while Zidane’s glittering CV is as good as proof of his capabilities for the role you could wish for.
The 49-year-old was interested in taking charge at Old Trafford back in 2018 when Jose Mourinho’s position looked precarious.
