Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, his State of origin. He however spent his early childhood in Kano State where he had his primary education. He attended Holy Trinity Schools and joined the Drama and Debating societies.

While schooling in Kano State, he attended one of Hubert Ogunde’s concert parties and this birthed his love for acting. He later secured a visa to England in order to nurture his passion for the career. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and started appearing in British Television shows.

His study in England was however not supported by his father who tore his application form in disapproval of his career choice. According to Jacobs, he ran away from his house after secretly processing his visa with his brothers. Later on, he wrote letters to his father from England and never saw the old man again as he died before his return to Nigeria.

Olu Jacobs is married to 60-year-old Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, MFR and they have two sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs.
