OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN: AGE, PARTNER AND BIOGRAPHY OF THE PROTAGONIST OF ‘GREASE’

The death of the singer joins those of the Japanese designer Issey Miyake and the actor Diego Bertie , for which they have made the month of August 2022 one of the saddest in the world of celebrities.

Born in 1948 in Cambridge, United Kingdom, at just five years old she moved to Australia with her family because her father got a position as a professor at the University of Melbourne. Her sister Rona, also an actress, died of cancer, a disease that years later would hit her.

Before coming to star in the film, which remains a classic, Olivia Newton-John already stood out as a singer, a career that led her to return to the United Kingdom. There she began to take her first steps with a group called Tomorrow, which was to star in a series that never became successful.

Instead, in 1971 the song If not for you, which was an adaptation of Bob Dylan, brought him fame. Later came Banks of The Ohio, an opening tour for Cliff Richard and his own television series.

The song “Let me be there” was his third big hit, with which he won a Grammy for Best Country Performer. This opened the doors of the United States, which helped her to become the unforgettable Sandy from the movie ‘Grease’.

In the tape, set in the 50s, he teamed up with John Travolta and both managed to make numerous songs on the soundtrack become hits, some of which have reached the present day.

In the 1980s, she continued to focus on her musical career, turning down numerous film offers. ‘ Physical , released in 1981, was her most successful record and three of her songs were included in the film Xanadu, in which she starred.

PERSONAL LIFE

Married to producer John Easterling, Olivia Newton-John became a mother in 1986, giving birth to Chloe. That moment was a break in her career, but it was not the only one for her, since in 1992 she received the news that she had breast cancer. That made him move away from the stage and the sets, focusing on her recovery and the foundation that bears her name.

HIS TRAGIC DEATH

Her husband was in charge of communicating the sad news on Monday, August 8, 2022 with a statement: «Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”

Cancer, the disease that took her sister, was the disease that forced her to fight against it for decades: «Olivia has been a symbol of triumph and hope for more than 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to plant medicine and cancer research. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.”

Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; her daughter Chloe Lattanzi; her sister Sarah Newton-John; her brother Toby Newton-Juhn; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall,” the statement ended.

JOHN TRAVOLTA’S FAREWELL

After the death of Olivia Newton-John, fans of the film have lost one of their references. John Travolta, her film partner and friend of hers for four decades, said goodbye to her with a nice message.

My dear Olivia, you made our whole lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you a lot. We’ll see each other on the road and we’ll all be together again.  Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”, wrote the actor on Instagram.

FAREWELL TO HIS DAUGHTER

Chloe has also wanted to say goodbye to her mother through social networks and she does so by remembering that she considered her “her best friend”. Days before the terrible news, he shared an image of her with her in which he said: “I adore this woman. My mother, my best friend.”
