He began his film career relatively late and spent many years letting himself be seen in light, almost irrelevant roles, both in movies and in television series. But little by little, thanks to his talent, she was delving into productions with greater impact, until his face became familiar to us. Now recognition has knocked on his door.

Without making noise, Olivia Colman has slipped into the list of most prestigious actresses, there are series like The Crown or movies like  The Favorite . Her good work in front of the cameras has balanced her media impact against other divas who focus more on physical attractiveness than on interpretive perfection. Although her beginnings were laborious, based on numerous and slight appearances in television series, Olivia rose over the years like a little ant until she reached the leading role in the remarkable series Broadchurch . Since then she has successfully alternated her presence on the small screen and in the cinema.

Sara Caroline Olivia Colman was born on January 30, 1974 in Norwich, England. The daughter of a nurse and a surveyor, she studied at Homerton College and later drama at Bristol Old Vic Theater School. At the age of twenty she met the novelist Ed Sinclair at Cambridge University, where he was studying law at the time. According to Olivia, “it was love at first sight.” They married in 2001 and have three children.

Although she had done work in different commercials, it was a year before her wedding that Olivia Colman made her debut as a true actress on television, with an appearance in the Bruiser series , where she played various characters. Little by little she was working on other productions, although her presence was limited at first to completing supporting characters in individual chapters. In 2005 she obtained her first roles for the cinema, in the comedies Buried Alive and Zemanovaload , films without much impact. In 2006 she participated in Confetti, a mockumentary about three couples who compete for the most original wedding. Olivia considers that it was a mistake to participate in that film and she considers it her worst experience so far in the world of acting. But she knew how to pick herself up and the following year she appeared in her first major film, Fatal Weapon , a comedy starring then-upstart Simon Pegg , while the same year she was cast in Grow Your Own , with Benedict Wong and Eddie marsan . Two years later, she teamed up with actor Paddy Considine in the likeable Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee., a comedy that revolves around the world of music. Olivia and Paddy form a good tandem, since they have coincided in three other films.

After working on two British comedy series that had some reach, Beautiful People and Twenty Twelve , in 2011 the actress went on to join the cast of two major films, the multi-award-winning  Redemption , a powerful drama about a violent man who finds the way to put his life back on track. , and The Iron Lady , a Margaret Thatcher biopic starring Meryl Streep . In 2013 she co-starred in one of her biggest hits, the series Broadchurch , alongside David Tennant .. The actress plays Ellie Miller, a shrewd detective investigating the facts surrounding a murder in a small seaside town. The series had three seasons, with very good acceptance. An actress with a fondness for original films, little given to the cliché, Colman worked in 2015 in the curious musical London Road and collaborated with a small role in the strange Lobster , by Yorgos Lanthimos . Renowned was also her participation the following year in the series The Infiltrator , directed by the Danish Susanne Bier. Colman was a CIA agent recruiting the manager of a hotel. The actress, who won her first Golden Globe, was eight months pregnant at the time, but Bier gave her the role precisely because she saw a good dramatic possibility there, inspired by the great role of Frances McDormand in Fargo .

True to her way of proceeding, Olivia Colman continued to combine films and television series, but with high quality. Thus came her role in the revisited Murder on the Orient Express , by Kenneth Branagh , and her second collaboration with the Greek Lanthimos in The Favourite , a film that has won her the Golden Globe for best comedy actress. And on television we can see her in the new version of Les Miserables , directed by Tom Shankland and in the third season of the extraordinary The Crown , where she replaces Claire Foy in the role of Queen Elizabeth II.
