NYSC General meets with Governor Fayemi over safety of Corp members

The NYSC Director-General, Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, met with the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday, over the safety of the corps members in the Ekiti.

It was earlier reported that one of the corps members, identified as  Saidu Adamu with state code, EK/20B/1251. was shot by the political thugs during Saturday’s fatal Ekiti bye-election.

Five persons were killed, including a policewoman in the violence that erupted in the by-election in Ward 7 of Omuo Ekiti in the Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state.

Ibrahim in his statement said the corps member that was shot is recovering in the hospital.

However, the NYSC General urged Nigerians to always give adequate protection to the corps members, most especially those who volunteer to participate in election as ad-hoc staff in the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Ekiti Governor condemned the violence experienced during last Saturday’s bye-election at Unit 7, Ward 7 of Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti East LGA, thus promised that his government will provide security in ensuring the safety, and welfare of the corps members.

I tender an unreserved apology to the corps member and the entire NYSC family over the unfortunate incident. The administration in conjunction with security agencies is doing everything possible to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.”

Furthermore, he assured that the State Government will pay the bill of the affected corp member’s medical treatment.
