Norma Doggett
She gave life to Martha, one of the adorable brides from the classic “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Norma Doggett passed away in Forest Hills, New York, at the age of 94, on May 4, 2020.
Born on August 3, 1925, in Chicago (Illinois), Norma Doggett received dance classes at the Goldblatt department store in her hometown. After finishing high school, she worked as a dancer in six Broadway musicals between 1948 and 1959. Michael Kidd, choreographer for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers , remembered her because she had gone to one of his casting calls, and decided she was the ideal actress for him. the film that Stanley Donen was going to direct .
He was about to not appear in the film. During rehearsals she injured her ankle, so she was replaced. However, at the beginning of the shooting, the substitute “twisted her ankle in the same place”, she recalled in an interview. “I had secretly continued to practice and was better now, so they recruited me again and filmed me at every dance I was going to go to.”
He retired early from show business. Later, she was married to Jack Bezwick from 1970 until his death in 1985.
