The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has stated that it has yet to receive an official communication regarding the arrest warrant issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States against a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
The arrest order was issued after Kyari was charged with a $1.1 million cyber fraud involving a defendant named Abass Ramon nicknamed Hushppuppi.
In an interview with Punch, Umar Gwandu, an adviser to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said that a transfer process would not begin until the US made a request.
Everything, according to Gwandu, will be done in accordance with the rule of law and the demands of the law’s current provisions.
He said; “There is no official communication to that effect. “Everything will be done according to the rule of law and based on the dictates of the extant provisions of the law”.
Recall that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) made some allegations against the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
According to the agency, Hushpuppi gave N8 million which is equivalent to $20,600 to the police chief to arrest and detain a “co-conspirator,” Chibuzo Kelly Vincent.
However, Mr. Kyari had denied all of the allegations in a Facebook post that has now been deleted after a court document exposed how Hushpuppi bribed him to arrest Mr. Chibuzo following a dispute over the proceeds of crime.
He said the suspect was released after discovering there was no threat to anyone’s life, “and they are longtime friends who have money issues between them.”
However, more details of their conversations indicated that Mr. Kyari received money to have Mr. Chibuzo detained for five weeks upon the instruction by Mr. Abbas.
