Nirbhaya (born 1989) was a victim of the Delhi rape case on December 16, 2012. She lost her life on December 29, 2012, due to a multi-organ failure in her body. Her real name was Jyoti Singh. The media gave him the name Nirbhaya, which means brave.
A controversy arose about her boyfriend who was used to getting money from the media for recounting the event that occurred on the night of December 16, 2012.
Early life, biography, parents, siblings and education
Nirbhaya was born in 1989 in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. She was only 23 years old at the time of her death. Her real name was Jyoti Singh. Her father’s name is Badrinath Singh and her mother’s name is Asha Devi. She has a brother. After her father got a job at Palam airport, her family moved to Delhi.
He completed his twelfth grade at a public school in Delhi. And after that, she starts preparing for the Pre-Medical Exam (PMT). But for some reason, she failed the PMT exam. She then decided to complete her higher education. So she enters the Physiotherapy Institute, Dehradun to complete a Physiotherapy degree. After completing her course in 2012, she returned to Delhi and joined a trainee program at a physiotherapy hospital in Gurgaon.
Personal life and boyfriend
He was in a relationship with Awindra Pratap Panday who is a software engineer. Some controversy has arisen about him because she received money from the media for speaking out about that night’s incident told by news reporter Ajit Anjum.
Death
The night of December 16, 2012, was the last night of Nirbhaya. She was returning home with her boyfriend after watching the movie “Life of Pi” at a cinema in Saket, South Delhi. It was around 9:30 pm at the time and they were looking for a rickshaw that would drop them off at her house. Then they saw a white private bus out of service. They both entered the bus and saw that there were only 6 male members sitting inside the bus, including the bus driver. The bus doors were locked tight and the driver takes the bus on another route. When Awindra asked the driver where they were going, one of the male members of the bus taunted the couple, asking why they were travelling late at night. This conversation turns into a fight between her boyfriend and her male member.
After that, the cruel members dragged Nirbhaya to the back seat of the bus and mercilessly raped her one by one. When she tried to defend herself against her, one of the assailants took a rusty iron rod and inserted it into her private part, ripping open her intestines. After an hour, Awindra and Nirbhaya were thrown from the moving bus near Mahipalpur. After some time, a pedestrian passes from the road and finds them half dead on the road and immediately calls the Delhi police. The Delhi Police take them to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, where doctors describe their condition as critical. They said only 5 per cent of the intestine remained in the woman’s body.
She was taken to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore after initial treatment in Delhi. On December 29, she died in Singapore. The autopsy reports on her said that her genitals, intestines and abdomen suffered serious injuries.
The suspects include Ram Singh, the bus driver, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma and a 17-year-old boy.
Less than 24 hours after the incident, the Delhi Police arrested the bus driver with the help of CCTV Footage. The police also arrested the other suspects with the help of sketches explained by Jyoti and her friend.
