Nigerians react as police locked innocents in stinky prison

Nigerians have been reacting to a post shared by a Twitterati identified as Dapsy Justdaps(@dapsy_justdaps) who said police locked him and other innocent Nigerians in  prison

According to the tweet, Dapsy and a few others were arrests, their phones seized and were locked up in a stinky prison. They were unlawfully arrested for taking fresh air outside their apartment.

‘This is what everybody here finds themselves in, just raiding to raid money from innocent Nigerian citizens, luck them up in cells not even conducive for animals, despite all the various pandemics outside, please Nigerians help us out.”

“It’s now officially a crime to take fresh air outside your apartment, Honestly, I and my friend Agutam Ibeh are just outside, while

took the light, the next thing we saw was men on all black with guns, next is this Orile Iganmu cell, met people here already filled up”

However, it is in the best interest of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that all suspects detained and brought to a police station are treated in accordance with their legal rights, their human rights (as enshrined in the Nigeria Constitution), and with due regard for their welfare.

This inhumane treatment has made us believe that once a suspect is taken to a police station, they may be subjected to ill-treatment by police and denied their legal rights. Which happens.

Whilst there may be examples of such abuses, this public perception has a damaging effect on police and community relations and the image of a police station being a safe place to go for assistance.
