In a year, the cost of refilling a 5 kg cylinder of cooking gas increased by 70.62%.
This is based on information from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) November 2022 release of its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Price Watch.
Refilling a 5 kg cylinder increased by 70.62% from N2,627.94 in October 2021, according to data, while refilling a 12.5 kg cylinder increased by 51.40% from N6,638.27 in October 2021.
The data also reveals that in October 2022, Nigerians spent up to N4,483.75 to replenish a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas, often known as LPG. They spent up to N10,050.53 in October 2022 to replenish a 12.5kg LPG cylinder.
The Nigerian government announced in September 2022 that it intended to create the Gas Funding Company Limited in order to infuse 20 million LPG cylinders over the course of the following five years.

Refilling a 5 kg cylinder of cooking gas climbed by 0.21% month over month from N4,474.48 recorded in September 2022 to N4,483.75 in October 2022, according to the LPG price watch report. Additionally, the monthly cost of refilling a 12.5-kilogram cylinder increased by 1.45% from N9 906.44 in September 2022 to N10 050.53 in October 2022.

Firewood, charcoal, and dung are the main sources of cooking fuel in Nigeria, along with kerosene for those who can afford it.
