1. On his first day in office the new Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke fires 12,000 workers, and puts the appointment of 3 obas on hold.

The All Progressives Congress and the Osun State House of Assembly have tackled Ademola Adeleke, over the six Executive Orders he signed on Monday.

They condemned the new governor for reversing some appointments and job recruitments made by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.

In his first official action as governor, Adeleke who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party platform announced the sacking of alleged 12,000 workers employed by his predecessor.

He also deposed three monarchs and allegedly ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return of local council chairmen elected under the APC in the October 15 local government elections conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to leave a legacy of free and fair elections in Nigeria and the West African sub-region at large.

The Nigerian leader will finish his second term next year and has reiterated his desire to conduct a hitch-free election, adding that the country is committed to a stable West Africa.

He said this on Monday at the 2022 second ordinary session of the ECOWAS parliament in Abuja, according to a statement from presidential aide Femi Adesina.

3. The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Institutions (ASUU) has warned Nigerians of a new crisis at the country’s universities, which it claims would be worse than any that have come before.

In order to achieve this, ASUU asked the assistance of stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to persuade the federal government to pay members across the nation their withheld salary for the previous eight months.

At a special congress of the local branch held at the main auditorium of the institution, Prof. Moyosore Ajao, the chairman of ASUU, University of Ilorin branch, sounded the alarm.

Before retiring to the auditorium to address the newsmen on “Casualisation of Intellectual Workers In Nigeria: Prelude To Our Response,” the university’s lecturers held a protest of solidarity on campus.

4. WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that lets you message yourself. Users can now message themselves thanks to a new feature introduced by the instant messaging service WhatsApp.

Message Yourself is the name of the new feature, which will formally launch in the near future. Users will be able to message their accounts using it.

For communications like to-do lists, reminders, or draft messages that will be sent later, this will be helpful. According to WhatsApp, the function will be made available to users of Android and iOS in the upcoming weeks. Additionally, you can archive and pin the self-chat.

5. Amotekun Corps, the Oyo State division of the Southwest Security Network, has found AK-47 guns, military camouflage, and other goods that were allegedly buried in the state’s forest by suspected kidnappers.

Col. Olayinka Olayanju (ret.), commandant of the corps in Oyo State, revealed to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday that the corps had retrieved four AK-47 weapons, four magazines, and 50 rounds of live 7.62mm ammo.

Additionally found were berets, two Nigerian Army headgear, raincoats, and wraps made of Indian hemp. He said that the things were found while corps members were searching for kidnapping suspects on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

6. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Bashir Sheriff Machina as the authentic All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District.

The court upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Yobe State which held that the President of the senate Ahmad Lawan, is not the APC candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District in next year’s election into the National Assembly.

7. A small museum in southeast London has begun the official process of returning looted Benin artifacts to Nigeria.

The Horniman Museum, which houses a collection of 72 treasured items that were taken by force from Benin City in 1897, officially handed over ownership of the artifacts to the Nigerian government on Monday.

The Horniman described returning the looted objects as a “moral and appropriate” response after a request from Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

There are still questions about whether thousands of items that were held at large institutions globally, including the British Museum, will ever be sent back.

8. The dust raised by Governor Nyesom Wike’s revelation on the payment of 13% derivation fund arrears by the federal government to the Niger Delta States is yet to settle.

Governor Wike of Rivers State had over a week ago, during a project commissioning, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari had paid the arrears of 13% derivation fund owed since 1999 to all the Niger Delta States.

The revelation, which some perceived as politically motivated, had generated a lot of reactions from members of the public across the Niger Delta States, including Akwa Ibom.

9. The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the act of vandalism perpetrated on its members and people of the state by suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs during its rally in the state on Sunday.

In a statement, the chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, claimed the opposition PDP smuggled thugs from other states to join hands with their counterparts in the state to cause havoc.

 10. An undergraduate of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Adamu, has been languishing in detention after security officials comprising the police and men of the Department of State Service, arrested him over a post on Twitter alleging that the wife of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Aisha was feeding fat on poor people’s money.

Aminu’s uncle, Shehu Azare, in an interview published by BBC Hausa on Monday, said the victim’s father, Mallam Ádámù, was not aware of his arrest until about five days later.

Appealing to the First Lady to release Aminu, Azare said Aminu’s father was not aware of his son’s condition until one of his friends informed him.
