Nigerian-Made Noodles is Safe To Eat- NAFDAC assures

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has assured consumers of the safety of Nigerian-made noodles, following the recall of Indomie noodles in Malaysia and Taiwan.

You will recall that in May, the agency insisted that the importation of Indomie noodles remains banned in Nigeria. NAFDAC said the products flagged by both Taiwan and Malaysian health authorities are not registered in Nigeria and so have nothing to do with the country. She, however, noted that the investigations being conducted are simply being cautious.

In a statement released on Thursday, NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said that the agency’s investigations have revealed that the Indomie noodles implicated in the recalls were not imported into Nigeria.

“We have carried out thorough investigations and can confirm that the Indomie noodles that were recalled in Malaysia and Taiwan are not the same as the ones that are produced and sold in Nigeria,” Adeyeye said.

“The noodles that are produced in Nigeria are safe for consumption and meet all the required standards.”

Adeyeye urged consumers to be wary of fake news and misinformation about the safety of Nigerian-made noodles.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all food products in Nigeria,” she said. “We will continue to work with our partners to monitor the food supply chain and ensure that only safe and wholesome products are available to consumers.”

The recall of Indomie noodles in Malaysia and Taiwan was prompted by concerns about the presence of a harmful bacteria called Salmonella. However, Adeyeye said that there have been no reports of any illness associated with Nigerian-made Indomie noodles.

“We have not received any reports of illness from consumers who have eaten Nigerian-made Indomie noodles,” she said. “We are confident that these noodles are safe for consumption.”

Adeyeye also urged consumers to always check the expiry dates on food products before consuming them.

“It is important to check the expiry dates on food products before consuming them,” she said. “Do not eat food products that have expired.”

The NAFDAC DG also advised consumers to only buy food products from reputable retailers.

“Only buy food products from reputable retailers,” she said. “Do not buy food products from roadside vendors or from places where the hygiene standards are not good.”

Adeyeye said that NAFDAC will continue to monitor the food supply chain in Nigeria to ensure that only safe and wholesome products are available to consumers.

“We will continue to work with our partners to monitor the food supply chain and ensure that only safe and wholesome products are available to consumers,” she said.
