Deji Yesufu, a top-notch political commentator relayed his experience with one of the officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) when he visited to renew his driver’s license at the Road Safety Unit, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
In a Facebook post, Deji said he tendered the online form to the officers identified as O. A. Adedokun as seen in his badge. The officer then queried him that since he is driving with a glass, he should tender a doctor’s report ascertaining that he can drive with or without glasses.”
“I needed to renew my driver’s license. I showed them my form which I filled online. This guy explains to me that since I use glasses to drive I’ll need to get a doctor’s report ascertaining that I can drive with or without glasses.”
More so, he said when he contacted his doctor, the first thing he said was: “Nigeria is getting better”. Eye doctors have been asking FRSC to pay attention to drivers’ eyes for decades now in Nigeria. They are now putting the advice to practice.
“I saw my eye doctor at UCH, Dr. Oluleye Tunji Jeff. The first thing my doctor said when he saw the request was: “Nigeria is getting better”. Eye doctors have been asking FRSC to pay attention to drivers’ eyes for decades now in Nigeria. They are now putting the advice to practice.
I undergo eye tests with my doctor and I was certified fit to drive. I return to Agodi for my license. I’m on the way to renewing my driver’s license in Ibadan, Nigeria.”
According to Deji, it takes not only the government to end the malaise in the country but individual selfless effort tending towards the nation’s building.
“Moral of the story: I’ve often argued in this space that what will fix Nigeria is not Government. What will fix this country is our individual contribution to the nation’s building. Take the example of this guy. Before he assumed the position in that office, FRSC Agodi used to be a beehive of activities. People loitering around, etc.”
“Now, there is a waiting room for people who may need to have their data captured. Then you have this guy or one of his assistants asking anyone hanging around “what is the problem… what do you wish we do for you…”. Minimizing loitering and ensuring swift attendance to everyone’s business. Without preference or anyone taking a bribe.
I genuinely commend the man heading the Road Safety Unit at the Agodi Secretariat branch. I don’t know his name but I pray for more of his tribe to increase in this country.”
