Niger State Governor orders closure of all public secondary schools

The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello has ordered the closure of the public secondary schools in the State for two weeks.

The State Government reached the decision after he held a meeting with the government and official from various security agencies in the State.

However, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu,  the state’s Commissioner for Education, said the commencement of the closure of the public secondary schools is Friday, March 12th to Friday, March 26th, 2021.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday in Minna, the state capital, the commissioner said the decision was taken in the interest of the students.

Furthermore, note that the two weeks closure of the school will the security agencies adequate time and opportunity to conduct a comprehensive assessment of all public schools.

The commissioner noted that after the completion of the assessment, the outcome will provide an all-inclusive mechanism and strategies that will restore and guarantee sustainable security and safety of students, school infrastructure, education managers, and teachers in the state.
