Nigel Terry is best known for playing King Arthur in “Excalibur”, the film directed by John Boorman in 1981. The actor died on April 30, 2015 at the age of 69 as a result of emphysema. He developed an extensive theatrical career.

Nigel Terry was the first baby to be born in Bristol after the end of World War II, on August 15, 1945. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Truro where his father worked as a probation officer. At the Truro school he studied drawing and painting and became interested in acting.

After working briefly in forestry, he joined the National Youth Theatre. In 1963 she enrolled at London’s Central School of Drama. He joined the Prado Oxford Company in 1966 as an assistant stage manager, and soon after as an actor. After various roles in television series, he made his big screen debut as Prince John in The Lion in Winter , with Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn . Over a decade later, he was cast by John Boorman to play the legendary King Arthur in Excalibur , opposite Helen Mirren , as Morgana.

Despite the success of the tape, Terry continued to lavish himself mainly on the scene, and only played an occasional role in series and in the movies. For example, he played the main character’s butler, in Christopher Columbus: The Discovery , and was the main actor in Caravaggio , by Derek Jarman , who later called on him for various roles in titles such as Eduardo II , until the director’s death.

His last prominent role brought him together with O’Toole again, when he played a Trojan priest in Troy .
