Nick Buoniconti was an American professional soccer player. He played as a center linebacker in the American Football League (AFL) as well as the National Football League (NFL). He was first drafted by the Boston Patriots in the 13th round of the 1962 AFL Draft. He later traded to the Miami Dolphins of the AFL in 1969, winning two Super Bowls. Additionally, in 2001, Buoniconti was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

NICK BUONICONTI: BIOGRAPHY, FAMILY, CAREER

The athlete was born as Nicholas Anthony Buoniconti on December 15, 1940 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is the son of Nicholas Anthony Buoniconti Sr. and Pasqualina Patsy Mercolino who raised him in a Roman Catholic family. His parents ran a family bakery in the predominantly Italian South End.

He graduated from Notre Dame and later drafted by the Patriots of the American Football League in 1962. He began playing as a junior and finished second to the Fighting Irish in tackles in 1960. Subsequently, in the years seniors, he managed as Irish co-captain. with 74 tackles and honored with UPI, TSN and Football Coaches’ Association 2nd Team All-America selections.

However, the NFL considered him “too small” to play professional football, but in 1962 the Boston Patriots drafted him in the 1962 American Football League College Draft. He then moved to linebacker, shortly after. soon after, he was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. In 1969, he traded to the Miami Dolphins of the AFL and continued playing until 1976. With the team, he won Super Bowl games. His career ended with 24 unofficial sacks, 18 with the Patriots and six with the Dolphins.

Additionally, he was a graduate of Suffolk University Law School with a JD degree while playing with the Patriots. For a short time he practiced as a lawyer. However, he later showed up as an agent after his post-professional career. And he represented about thirty professional athletes including Bucky Dent and Andre Dawson.

He also started appearing in television programs. He has guest appeared including Comedy Central’s Night After Night with Allan Harvey. He later became a co-host of a weekly cable TV show ‘Inside the NFL’ which aired on HBO until 2001. In 2001 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Frame.

NICK BUONICONTI: PERSONAL LIFE, WIFE, DEATH

The AFL player has been married twice and divorced once. He first married his high school sweetheart Teresa Marie Salamano in 1962 who worked as a nurse. The couple separated in 1997 after being together for 35 years. Together, the couple welcomed three children: sons Marc Buoniconti and Nicholas Buoniconti III, and daughter Gina Marie. son Marc Buoniconti and Nicholas Buoniconti III -and daughter Gina Marie

Unfortunately, his son Marc suffered a spinal cord injury in 1985 while tackling for La Citadelle, leaving Marc with a quadriplegic. He met his second wife Lynn Weiss who is 12 years younger than him at a bar in 1995. His separation from his first wife is believed to be due to the extramarital affair with Lynn. In 2000, Lynn and Nick married in a private ceremony. Lynn has a successful travel business and also operates a French antique and gift shop.

Additionally, on July 30, he died aged 78 before in 2015 doctors told Buoniconti she was showing symptoms of dementia. Later, he openly shared that he was battling neurological issues.
