New NSA Ribadu Promises To Stabilize Nigeria's Security Challenges

Nuhu Ribadu, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police,  has officially taken over from Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (retd) as Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA) and has promised to stabilize Nigeria’s security challenges.

Speaking at a brief event in Abuja on Monday, Ribadu on assumption promised to live up to the expectations of Nigerians and secure the country from all forms of insecurity such as terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, amongst others.

More so, in a short Twitter thread, he promised to stabilise the country’s insecurity issues while securing the country for peaceful coexistence. Nuhu Ribadu believes the time has come for the country to enjoy peace, restore order and rule of law just like any other country in the world.

As I assume office today, I reminisce on the burden we carry in the pursuit of public service. To underscore the weight of the moment I decided to wear priceless gifts from those who’ve shaped my life:

“We will stabilise this country, we will secure our country and we will make Nigeria peaceful because we believe the time has come for this country to enjoy peace, restore order and rule of law just like any other country in the world,” Ribadu said as he assumed office.

“Securing the nation is a continuous process. We will look at what has been done and build on it. We will count on your support in the course of discharging our responsibilities.

“Mr President has a huge commitment to securing every inch of our country. We will work with all stakeholders to deliver on this vision.

“This enormous task of securing our country is that of all Nigerians and all friends of Nigeria,” he stated, according to a statement by the NSA Office.

In other news, the President of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Stephen Aiyewumi, (retd), described the new NSA to the President, Nuhu Ribadu, as fit and qualified for the post.

Aiyewumi said Ribadu was worth the position without a military background, adding that his achievements as the former boss of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission were laudable.

“I think he is qualified to hold that position. It does not matter whether he has no military background. All know his great achievements when he was the head of the EFCC. His name became a household name. Why, because of his activities as the head of the organisation.”
