Nate Dogg was an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor who has collaborated with a number of artists such as Warren G., Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Kurupt, Eminem, Dr. Cent, Ghostface Killah and Don Diablo during their lifetime. Beginning his musical career in hip hop trio 213 alongside Warren G and Snoop Dogg, he was later signed by the label, Death Row Records . Nate Dogg is also credited as one of the artists who helped bring the styles of G-funk and West Coast hip-hop to the music scene. Though he faced some legal troubles, his career blossomed tremendously and he was charted on the Billboard Hot 100 16 times for his work as a featured artist. He was also nominated for theGrammy Is on 4 occasions. Nate Dogg also served as a Munitions Specialist in Okinawa, Japan at Camp Schwab in the United States Armed Forces. Unfortunately, he died on March 15, 2011 at the age of 41 as a result of multiple strokes.

First album

Nate Dogg released his debut studio album entitled G-Funk Classics, Vols. 1 & 2 on July 21, 1998 through Breakaway. It was ranked 58th on the US Billboard 200 chart and peaked at 20th on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart.

The album was supposed to be released through Death Row Records in 1996, but that plan didn’t work out due to some legal issues with the label.

First TV show

He made his first TV show appearance as himself in an episode of the music talk show, Soul Train in 1997 alongside artists such as Snoop Dogg.

  1. His parents divorced when he was 14 and then he moved to Long Beach, California.
  2. Nate Dogg’s passion for singing originated when he was a child and used to sing at New Hope Baptist Church in Long Beach and Lifeline Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
  3. After serving in the Marines as a Munitions Specialist, he was stationed at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, with the 3rd Force Service Support Group’s Material Readiness Battalion, which serves as the munitions supplier for most of the Pacific Rim.
  4. In his words, the reason Nate Dogg went into the military was because he “wanted to see if he was a man.” He served in the military for three years before being discharged in 1989.
  5. Nate signed to Death Row Records in 1993.
  6. He released his first single, Regulate , with Warren G in 1994.
  7. Nate Dogg had a close relationship with artists Warren G, RBX, Butch Cassidy, Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger.
  8. He formed a hip hop trio supergroup called 213 along with friends and rappers Warren G and Snoop Dogg in 1991. The trio’s name was inspired by Los Angeles’ original telephone area code ‘213’ and they had their first opportunity to demo at the back of the famous VIP record store in Long Beach. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Dre the demo at a bachelor party.
  9. He appeared on a celebrity episode of the game show, The Weakest Link , in 2002 and made it to the last 3 players before being eliminated.
  10. In 1991, Nate Dogg was charged with the CheckChangers robbery, and in 1994 he got into trouble again with charges of robbing a San Pedro Taco Bell. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison, but managed to get both charges cleared.
  11. He was convicted of a drug offense in Los Angeles County in 1996.
  12. Nate Dogg was arrested by aSWAT team on June 17, 2000 for alleged kidnapping, assault and terrorist threats against his former girlfriend and for setting fire to her mother’s car in Lakewood, Los Angeles County. He was later hired by Dr. Dre released on $1 million bail after spending a night at Twin Towers Correctional Facility. The charges were later dismissed.
  13. He was also charged with illegally possessing a firearm by an offender and was fined $1,000.
  14. On April 12, 2002, he was arrested on gun and drug charges after 2 pistols and 4 ounces of cannabis were found on his tour bus. He was later released on a $3,500 bond.
  15. In 2006, he was arrested for entering the home, phone harassment, assaulting the battery, stopping a witness from reporting a crime, and violating a restraining order.
  16. In July 2008, Nate Dogg was arrested for allegedly sending threatening emails to his estranged wife and stalking her after stalking her in a car on Interstate 405 the previous month.
