Naomi Harris
Naomie Harris’ magic wand seems to turn almost everything she touches into a success. Since she rose to fame with “28 Days Later,” the London actress has garnered praise from critics and audiences in almost equal measure for each of her dazzling performances. Neither theater, nor cinema, nor television can resist her, and even James Bond himself has been unable to escape her charms in “Skyfall”.
Naomie Melanie Harris was born on September 6, 1976 in London (England). The daughter of the television writer Kayla Lisselle, she always showed a real interest in being part of the world of acting, and that is why she studied at the prestigious Anna Scher theater school. Strange as it may seem, Harris went to study political and social sciences at Cambridge University. She graduated with honors, but that experience was not as satisfying as she expected and she decided to change the course of her life. She embarked on a new stage studying at Bristol’s prestigious Old Vic Theater school, where Jeremy Irons and Daniel Day-Lewis studied, among others .
And from there, everything would come rolling. Roles in films of little renown such as Crust (2001), Living in Hope (2002) or Anansi (2002) were the prelude to the origin of his fame, which came thanks to 28 days later (2002). In Danny Boyle ‘s post-apocalyptic film, she played Selena, one of the survivors after an incurable virus turned almost the entire London population into bloodthirsty zombies. Surrounding himself with the undead really suited him well.
Her name began to stand out strongly at that time, and she would continue to receive international recognition thanks to her role as Tia Dalma in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006), and in the subsequent continuation of the saga, Pirates . of the Caribbean: At the end of the world (2007).
Between boarding and boarding, he had time to participate in Tristram Shandy: a Cook and a Bull Story (2005) by Michael Winterbottom , an adaptation of a classic British novel from the 17th century; in Miami Vice (2006) , based on the series of the same name and which was not even the shadow of what was seen on television; and later in Dueños de la calle (2008) with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker .
In his filmography it is worth taking a break to have been Ninja Assassin (2009), one of the most outstanding martial arts films without a doubt in recent years, where he played a Europol agent; and The First Grader (2010), a story based on true events, in which she worked as a teacher with just cause in Kenya, fighting for the right of an elderly person to be educated at 84 years of age. This drama came in second place at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In 2012, a project arrived to which it has been impossible to say no. In Skyfall (2012), she plays Eve, an M16 agent who will be James Bond’s main help to finish off the bad guy. “She’s not afraid to stand up to Bond and that makes her that much more interesting. Playing Eve has given me the opportunity to highlight the more adventurous side of my personality and I’ve had a great time”, commented Naomie Harris herself. Although the adventures of James Bond are not the culmination of interpretation, it does represent a leap in the popularity of everyone who participates in them. Even though she doesn’t like playing sex-symbol roles.
The small screen is not alien to him either. She starred in Small Island (2009) and Blood and Oil (2010) for the BBC, and even participated in the television adaptation of White Teeth (2002), Zadie Smith’s resounding bestseller, playing a young lovelorn. She also worked on other adaptations of novels such as The Project (2002) or Poppy Shakespeare (2008), where she played the protagonist herself.
There is no doubt that she is an all-terrain actress who has been able to adapt like a chameleon to all the opportunities that have come her way. Her journey still does not have an expiration date, and being a “Bond girl” has been the detail that was missing so that, if there was still someone who did not know her, she has already done so.
