Mr Eazi Reveals How He Lost ₦19m in Failed Diesel Business at 19

Published

on

Nigerian singer and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, has opened up about a major financial setback he suffered as a teenager, revealing that he once lost ₦19 million in a failed diesel business.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Banku Music pioneer said he went into the venture at just 19 years old after raising funds from his uncle, a doctor, and his wife in Nigeria. The money, which was equivalent to about £40,000 at the time, was invested with the hope of supplying diesel to telecommunications giant, MTN.

According to him, his friend’s father, popularly called OC’s dad, also contributed his life savings to the business. Together, they attempted to secure diesel through agents at the Apapa port in Lagos.

However, things went sour when deregulation of fuel prices hit shortly after the purchase. Prices crashed, their money got trapped, and the anticipated MTN deal fell through.

Mr Eazi explained that they were eventually forced to sell the diesel at a loss, disappointing their investors and leaving them with no chance of recovering the millions spent.

Despite the heavy blow, he described the experience as a turning point in his life, one that helped shape his entrepreneurial mindset and prepared him for the global success he would later achieve in music and business.

On social media, reactions trailed the revelation.

  • @Araboriota said: “At 19 most people are still asking parents for pocket money. Even though the business failed, the experience Mr. Eazi gained was worth more than the ₦19m.”
  • @Tumzy9 wrote: “I never still see 19 million.”
  • @mayor_xxx added: “₦19m gone, but the experience turned him into the man he is now.”
  • @BhadJayy commented: “₦19 million at 19, lol.”

In a recent interview making rounds on social media, the 14-year music veteran admitted he was on the verge of bowing out of the industry until the unexpected success of the record reignited his drive.

Popular comedian and streamer Shank Comics has dismissed speculations of rivalry between himself and fellow digital creator, Peller.

Speaking on Isbae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, Shank addressed the comparisons that have trailed his entry into the streaming space earlier this year, after his stint at Kai Cenat’s Streamer University in the U.S.

When asked about the perceived competition, Shank stressed there was no bad blood between them.

“Peller is my brother. He’s my senior colleague in the streaming business. This has nothing to do with age,” he said.

He added that while comparisons are inevitable, they don’t change the cordial relationship he shares with Peller. According to him, they maintain regular communication and mutual respect despite their different journeys.

The clarification comes amid growing chatter on social media over who holds more influence in Nigeria’s budding streaming scene.
