Mordecai Lawner devoted his career almost entirely to the theater. But on film he briefly played the father of Woody Allen’s character in “Annie Hall.” The actor died at the age of 86 of a heart attack in New York on Thanksgiving Day 2014.

Born in 1928, Mordecai Lawner regularly played supporting characters in stage productions across the United States. He was a regular on the off Broadway circuit, but also played one of the characters in a luxurious production of Death of a Salesman , in one of the main New York theaters.

He rarely appeared on the screen. He played the father of Woody Allen ‘s character Alvy Singer in Annie Hall . But he only appeared in a flashback where the protagonist recalled his childhood, in which he argued with his wife because he had fired the cleaning woman.

He subsequently appeared in Ghostbusters II and Enforcer . He shared the stage several times with his wife, Eugenia Thornton, who died in 2005.
