Mona Freeman achieved some popularity in the 1940s and 1950s, and is remembered as Olivia de Havilland’s cousin in “The Heiress.” The actress herself passed away on May 23, 2014 at her Beverly Hills residence, aged 87. This was confirmed by her daughter, Monie Ellis, who did not specify the cause of her death.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 9, 1926, Monica Freeman (real name of the interpreter) became a model in New York at the tender age of 14, to raise money so that her older brother could enroll in the prestigious Yale University.

Mona Freeman ‘s beauty caught the eye of magnate Howard Hughes , who signed her to move to Hollywood and make her film debut in Frank Borzage ‘s Till We Meet Again . She undertakes her first notable role in the musical Siempre en tus brazos , opposite Betty Grable .

At the beginning of her career, she did not have much luck, as she was going to play Barbara Stanwyck ‘s stepdaughter , in Billy Wilder ‘s Bane , but she was finally replaced because the image she gave on the screen seemed too youthful for the character. She was subsequently going to be Elizabeth Taylor ‘s older sister in Fire of Youth , but was once again fired from her because she did not appear to be any older than the leading lady, despite the fact that she was six years older than her.

After several titles, William Wyler gives her a golden opportunity, recruiting her as a secondary for The Heiress , where she plays Marian Almond, cousin of Olivia de Havilland ‘s character , Catherine Sloper, a single woman from a good family who is completely transformed by introducing her to Morris Townsend. , the ideal suitor, at least in appearance.

She was also the female lead in a comedy by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis , Locos del aire , where the couple played a duo of skydivers. The key role of  Mona Freeman ‘s career was Mary Wilton, the girlfriend of Robert Mitchum ‘s character in Otto Preminger ‘s Angel Face , in which the actor plays an ambulance driver who agrees to work as a chauffeur for a wealthy married couple. His new boss, played by Jean Simmons , ends up seducing him to entangle him in a sinister plan.

In 1945,  Mona Freeman married Pat Nerney, a wealthy businessman in the automobile sector with whom she had her daughter Monie Ellis, who followed in her acting footsteps, although she did not go beyond appearing in television productions such as Harrelson’s Men .

After divorcing Nerney in 1952,  Mona Freeman joined forces with little-known actor Jack Ellis, who worked with her on the Preminger film, but her career went downhill from then on. She played a Marine’s girlfriend in Raoul Walsh ‘s war drama Beyond Tears , but she was subsequently relegated to the small screen. She appeared on shows like Perry Mason until she retired in 1966. She only returned in 1972 as the wife of Martin Landau , a soldier captured in Vietnam, in the telefilm Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol .
