Miyetti Allah tells FG to create ministry of livestock development
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has told the federal government to establish a ministry of livestock development to oversee the full execution of the national livestock transformation plan (NLTP).
Similar demands were made in 2018 by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN). The national economic council (NEC), under the direction of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, implemented the NLTP. It was intended to last for ten years, from 2019 to 2028.
The federal government reported that as of June 2021, 22 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) had registered for the program. Miyetti Allah also demanded that all grazing reserves in the nation be immediately designated and recorded.
Saleh Alhassan, the group’s national secretary, reportedly made the new request on Monday during a larger gathering of the association’s national executives to discuss issues affecting Fulani pastoralists.

According to Alhassan, the implementation will aid in resolving disputes between farmers and herders.
“Restoration of all the grazing reserves across the states of the federation is one of the strategic ways to address the incessant farmer-herder clashes,” he said.
“This should also include creation deployment of modern technology, earth dams and solar boreholes as well as veterinary clinics and development of dairy (milk) collection centres.”
Alhassan also criticized the “continuous” criminalization of Fulani pastoralists. He nonetheless thanked the federal government for its dedication to the development of livestock, noting that this step will improve the security and general welfare of pastoralist communities across the nation.
He added that the group has started mobilizing and educating its members about the importance of voting in the upcoming elections.
“We call on the political awareness and mobilization directorate to embark on awareness campaigns to sensitize our people on participating in the forthcoming general elections,”
