Mike Connors
He gave life to the detective protagonist of the series “Mannix”, and acted as a secondary in numerous films. Mike Connors passed away on January 26, 2017 at the age of 91 in Tarzana, California. Only a week earlier he had been diagnosed with leukemia.
Born on August 15, 1925 in Fresno, a Californian town, into an Armenian family, Krekor Llevado Ohanian (his real name) succeeded as a basketball player, as he got to be on the UCLA team, under the command of John Wooden, a mythical trainer.
In the 50s he began his journey as an actor, interpreting numerous figurations, using Touch Conners, or Touch Connors, as his stage name. For example, he was an Amalekite shepherd, in The Ten Commandments . Little by little he rose through the ranks, until he became the husband in the process of divorcing Romy Schneider in the comedy Lend me to your husband .
In 1967 he was recruited for his best-known series, Mannix , created by Richard Levinson and William Link, where he played a Korean War veteran who returns home to become a detective. He racked up eight successful seasons, during which his lead became one of the highest-paid actors on the small screen. He received numerous criticisms for his excessive violence. Connors himself spoke about them in 1997, when he compared this production with the current ones. “We had car chases and fights, but when I look at the ones now I think they are very naive.”
After the broadcast ended, Mike Connors became a regular guest on hit shows, such as Vacation at Sea , Murder She Wrote , and Two and a Half Men , where he did his last job, in a 2007 episode. He has been married until his death with Marylou, with whom he had two children.
