After the death of Olivia de Havilland, he had become the last accredited survivor of the cast of “Gone with the Wind”, from 1939. Mickey Kuhn died on November 20, 2022, at the age of 90, in a hospital hospice care in Naples, Florida.
Born in Waukegan, Illinois, on September 21, 1932, Mickey Kuhn moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was very young. There, he auditioned for Fox, and debuted with a small role in 1934’s Change of Heart. His parents enrolled him in the Mar-Ken School for Performing Children, where he befriended the acting brothers Dwayne and Darryl Hickman. Later they chose him among fifty other children to appear in Juarez.
As soon as he arrived at the casting for Gone with the Wind , the person in charge of the selection told him “we had been waiting for you”, and announced to the other applicants that the role had already been given. She gave life to Beau Wilkes, son of Melanie and Ashley, the characters of Olivia de Havilland and Leslie Howard. He subsequently appeared in A Streetcar Named Desire and Red River , where he was the adopted son of John Wayne.
In 1957, Mickey Kuhn left the entertainment industry. Following his departure from Hollywood, Kuhn spent time working for American Airlines and the Boston Airport. Kuhn later appeared frequently at Gone with the Wind film festivals and fan conventions .
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his two children.
