MICHEL: HIS AGE, HIS CURRENT PARTNER AND BIOGRAPHY OF THE FORMER REAL MADRID PLAYER

Published

on

José Miguel González Martín del Campo, that is his real and full name, was born in March 1963 in the city of Madrid. From a very young age he began to form in the lower categories of the team since 1976, he debuted in the first team in 1982 against CD Castellón, when he managed to score a goal.

It would not be until two years later when he became a permanent player in the Real Madrid first team, where he remained until 1996, when he left as one of the legends in the history of the Santiago Bernabéu.

Michel played a total of 404 league games in which he scored 97 goals. Among his personal achievements was finishing fourth in the 1987 Ballon d’Or, behind his teammate Emilio Butragueño.

His great career as a player can be summed up with a record that includes 6 Spanish Leagues and two UEFA Cups, now known as the Europa League. He lived through Real Madrid’s drought in the Champions League, a curse that would be broken in 1998, when the team won the seventh, a title that had not reached their showcases since 1966.

After being ruled out by Jorge Valdano, Michel decided to say goodbye to Real Madrid and head to Mexico to sign for Atlético Zelaya, the club where former teammates such as Hugo Sánchez and Butragueño ended their careers.

After his definitive retirement from football, he made the leap to the world of television as a commentator for TVE together with José Ángel de la Casa and Juan Carlos Rivero in the matches of the Spanish National Team, Champions League and LaLiga. He used this stage to begin his training as a coach, a profession he has practiced for more than a decade.

He would make his debut at Real Madrid Castilla, being coach and later director of the white club’s youth academy, resigning due to strong discussions with Ramón Calderón, president of the club at that time. In addition to Rayo Vallecano, he has coached Getafe in two stages, managing to play in the Europa League in the 2009/2010 season, losing in the semifinals against Bayern Munich.

MICHEL’S CURRENT PARTNER

The footballer’s sentimental life has been one of the most stable, unlike other professional colleagues, who tend to star in scandals. He is married to Mercedes Morales, with whom he has had two children.

Adrián is the only one who has followed in his father’s footsteps, having trained at Real Madrid. Although with a much more discreet career than his father’s, he is one of the regular players for second division teams, currently playing for Fuenlabrada.
