The actor Michael Sarrazin, remembered above all for having formed a tireless couple with Jane Fonda in the dramatic Dance, dance, damn you , died of cancer on Sunday April 17 in Montreal.

The actor did not have a large filmography, but his face was well known to moviegoers due to his piercing eyes and good-guy face. He also made renowned films with stars such as Paul Newman , Jane Fonda or Barbra Streisand , James Coburn or Jacqueline Bisset .

Born in Quebec (Canada) on May 22, 1940. He grew up in Montreal and after studying at school, he did various jobs in Canadian theater and television, until he finally signed with Universal Studios in 1965. And the thing It went well because very soon he would be in an interesting film, A Fabulous Rascal , alongside George C. Scott and Sue Lyon . The following year he would meet Jacqueline Bisset in the film The Beach (1966) , where he played a surfer in the waves of Malibu. After filming he would begin a long romance with the actress.

In 1967 he would shoot the film for which he is best remembered: Dance, dance, damned . It is a superb adaptation by Sydney Pollack of the novel “Don’t they kill horses?”, by the great writer and screenwriter Horace McCoy . In it, various couples dance until exhaustion to win a prize. Sarrazin was paired with Jane Fonda in this terrible film, which talks about the nonsense of entertainment and criticizes an entire era. The following year he would work with the great Paul Newman in the action drama Invincible Breed . And he would repeat with Newman two years later in The Hanging Judge .

Before co-starring with Barbra Streisand on What the Hell Is Going On Here? , hilarious comedy by the Brooklyn actress, Sarrazin dared with the horror telefilm The True Story of Frankenstein , where he got into the skin of the monster. However, from that moment on his career faded and the titles he worked on lost quality. His later highlights included The Reincarnation of Peter Proud (1975), directed by J. Lee Thompson , and the comedy Crazy at the Wheel , in which he starred. In recent years he was seen in the poor MiedoPuntoCom , a film without much quality.
